: Thinking about buying a 98 SE
zbillster 03-11-2002, 08:45 PM I'm thinking about buying a clean 98 SE I found with 30K on it. But can't find detailed specs/reviews on them from SE-R.net How are these set up suspension-wise vs. the B14 200SX SE-Rs ... the same? Did the suspension setup improve with the 2000-2001 SEs (meaning should I get one of those instead)?
Stiletto 03-11-2002, 09:01 PM what specs do you want?
the 98 sentra se and 200sx se-r are the same as far as suspension. the sr20's got a "sport tuned" set-up from the factory. both models have limited travel in the rear. it's very easy to improve the suspension though.
the 00-01 sentra se is going to be better for a couple reasons: less miles, more hp and torque, etc.
but 30k ain't bad either! i guess it just depends on which look you like better the B14 or the B15...
zbillster 03-11-2002, 09:33 PM Dug through the net to get some more info ... I assume the limited slip diff is not in the 98 SEs since the 98 200SXs don't have them either?
Doesn't seem to be too much of a weight difference between the B14 and B15s. Wasn't sure if they shared the same suspension design (boy that looks like a live axle in the back!). The B14s look a little porky and the B15s have that awful hamster butt (okay, so I'm an ex-Classic B13 owner, I'm biased, don't flame me).;)
With 30K, clean as a whistle except for worn tires (we all know how that happens with the SR20DEs) and selling at a dealer for a little less than private party value (Kelly Blue Book), it's attractive. Definitely needs a short shifter though.

yep. 98-99 sr20's got the shafty-poo on the VLSD. again, one more advantage of the B15.
osideracer 03-13-2002, 05:50 PM also advantage for the 95-97 b14 200sx se-r right? those models do come with VLSD right?

yes, but if one was looking for a 4 door car, they'd have to buy a B15 to gain the VLSD. or swap the driver axle and tranny from a 95-97 SE-R into a 98-99 Sentra.
99SENTRASER 03-25-2002, 10:19 AM i like me se. it's not super fast stock. it's the slowest stock out of the b14's with sr20's. when you buy it, make sure you do the suspension right. se's just look like it's 4 wheelin when it's stock. don't buy black!!! it will fade!!! don't pay more than 12k for it.

It was advertised for $7995 (if it's still available, I think it's gone) at a Suzuki dealer in Plano, Texas. I'm passing on it, so anyone else can check up on it if they want.
My 98 SE is for sale. 76k, great shape, $8,500. See the post at the top of the For sale forum.
Storm88000 03-26-2002, 09:25 PM Mine 98 SE is for sale too with some more miles than Ben's for $7200. Also check the For Sale forum.
jacen99SE 03-26-2002, 10:44 PM I'm NOT selling my 99SE :D

Storm88000 03-27-2002, 06:32 PM Jacen you better now with all those mods! You have alot of money invested in that.
I'd like to keep mine, but I don't think its practical, I don't need the 4 doors and I could use something cheaper that will go just as fast or faster.
Anime Gee 04-09-2002, 11:44 PM Wow. $8,000 is not bad for an SE. I have a B15 SE & I love it, but the problem with the car is that nobody seems to support it. there are a few companies like AEM, Hotshot, Stillen, Place Racing, & Stromung that are making a few parts for it, but that's about it. I drive it like a madman on our local mountains & it handles very well. I think that there are more parts for the B14 car. The B14 engine should take a turbo without a problem. It doesn't have the LSD. So that's another thing that you might want to take into consideration. I think that Phantom Grip makes an LSD that fits into the 98-99 SE & I heard that it doesn't cost that much. By the way, is it a 5 speed? The car will be a blast to drive with a 5 speed. :D

Actually there is alot of support for the Sentra SE's, at least the 98-99's, since they use the same exact engine as the 95-97 SE-Rs. You also left out a key aftermarket supporter in your listings - Jim Wolf Technology - practically a pioneer in SR20DE development.
Both B14 and B13's handle boost the same since they are basically the same engine. Although bolt-ons are a bit of a controversy. 91-97 SE-R's have LSD, 98-99's do not. :( Figures I'd have a 98.
Sentrixx 04-11-2002, 12:31 PM I'm with you Jordan.. I have a 99. But the tranny and axle swap might be a nice idea.
