: Haynes or *official* Nissan manual?

I want to be more familiar with the workings of my SE-R ('98 200SX)... I've seen the Haynes manuals everywhere (online stores, ebay, etc.) and they can be had relatively cheap... I didn't have much luck finding 'official' Nissan service manuals (I would assume they cost more $$ too), but are Haynes relatively comprehensive? I would want to use it to do basic stuff, like adjusting stuff, changing brakes maybe, etc.... so will a Haynes do the trick, or should I keep on looking for an elusive Nissan service manual?

Get a Haynes, and read up. It'll cover most basic operations, no problem. Keep your eyes open for a FSM, and grab it when you get the chance. So much more detail-oriented, there's no comparison.

But yes, for most things you'll be doing in your driveway, a Haynes will do just fine IMHO.

Very well said. The Hanes manual goes as far as engine rebuilds from a bare block - so i'm willing to bet it will more than cover your needs.

I'm in the same boat, dealing w/ what I've got, and looking for a cheap FSM. When I had my 3000gt, someone had scanned the service manual, and sold "back-ups" on cd-rom, that were searchable. It was a wonderful resource. I wonder if anyone could tackle it for the sr20de.
