I'm sure this has been covered but...

If any of you people want to change your rad cap to the 16lb unit without paying for the awesome but overpriced Nismo one, this is for you.

A 1996 300zx 16lb cap will work on our Classic's

Stant makes them, Partnumber: 11233
(you can find these in any auto parts house)

I used some Eagle 1 aluminum polish and shinned it right up.

Here is more info on the differences of the Nissan OEM stock caps. I picked mine up from local dealer for less than $14.

from my website:
Replaced the Stock G20 Radiator Cap with a Stock Radiator Cap for the 1996 300 ZX TT. The Nissan part number for the radiator cap is 21430-54P00 and I purchased it at the local dealer, Buckeye Nissan for $13.65.

The stock OEM radiator cap for the SR20DE is rated at 0.9 BAR or approximately 13.2 lbs. psi. The 1996 300ZX Twin Turbo radiator cap is rated at 1.2 BAR. This is approximately 17.6 lbs. psi. Since SR20DE powered vehicles tend to experience water pump cavitation at around 6700 rpm at stock pressure, the higher-pressure rating will help reduce the risk of cavitation. This was a inexpensive upgrade that I could not pass up.

The 16lb stant one I picked up was $3.00

I've got a question;

I know I've read our cars can take a 16lb cap but, are you sure it can take the 17.6lbs??? What I mean to say is I'm sure there is a limit to what it can before seals blow. Are you possitive about the 17.6lb cap being okay?? Do you think it would be that big of a difference compared to the 16lb one? If your answer is yes then I might have to go get one.

Thank you and please advise

Is that with shipping?

It's also $6.86 at www.nissanparts.cc + $6.95 for shipping = $13.81

So, less than $14 directly from the dealer is not too bad considering that included tax. Comes out to be about the same as ordering online after shipping charges.

Your probably fine with the 16lbs Stant. If you want a OEM look then get a 17.6 300ZX TT, if not stick with the Stant. $3 is a steal!!

Thanks Nismo for the clear up! That helped a lot!

I told the wife that Nismo unit would be a good stocking stuffer.
(She laughed  )

My wife laughed at me last month when I ordered my personalized plates. And get this, she was the one who said, go ahead and order them for your Birthday. Woohoo!!!!! Anyhow, they say:

BY NISMO

All NISMO and NISMO + number combinations where taken. SR20DE, and any other derivative is gone! I was amazed.

She said, who's gonna know what that means. I told her that the right people will know and that I don't care about the others.

What am I doing wrong? Whenever I try to work out the water boiling point equation...

1 bar = 212* f
1.9 bar = 260* f
2.2 bar = 276* f

Is this right?
