: Increasing low-end power

as i look over the few mods i've done to my car, i realized that they all are designed to produce top-end power. my questions is: what can be done to increase the low-end power?

I got the same car as you do LOL I bought mine at mossy nissan El cajon you might want to try the UR 4 pulley set and the JWT S3 cams I got the UR 4 pulley set installed but am still awaiting the jwt s3 cams jwt programmed 96 ecu with s3program. with the pulleys your car will rev faster I think they dynoed the pulleys at like 5-8 horspower gain 4-6 coming into play at higher rpms hope this helps

Pullies should help a bit. Also, a lightweight flywheel will help. It will not give you any more power, but it will allow your engine to rev faster making a very noticable difference in feel.

The pullies and flywheel both help most at the higher rpms, but at least you don't lose any power anywhere. What else? Hmm... Stroker kit?

Actually they help accross the RPM band since the principle is to decrease rotational inertia allowing the car to rev faster.

In the case of the pullies this usually translates to more horsepower at the wheels because less of the power produced at the crank is lost to accessories(there are some more technical aspects but thats the jist of it). There may be a peak HP gain here, but the entire RPM band benefits pretty equally.

In the case of the flywheel less force is needed to turn that flywheel simply allowing the faster reving accross the entire RPM band.

Stroker kits are like a min. $3k......

Cam gears will allow you to bring your top end more towards your midrange. This will bring more to the low end.

I've been wondering the same thing Stilleto. I don't really think theres a way except for the stroker kit. Luckily I don't need the low end power since I'll be using my car to road race mostly.

Curious, anybody here use the adj. gears to move the hp/tq curves?

True, true, but the faster your water pump/power steering/AC is spinning, the more parisitic losses it causes. Therefore the pullies help "the most" at high rpms. They will help low end also, just not as much.

And "doh" you are right about the flywheel, it will help equally everywhere. It's the magic weight removal- 1lb off the flywheel is like -how many?- off the car. No extra power, you can just use what you've got better.

Advance your ignition timing.

Michael.

yes, but wouldn't cam gears be more for built engines? i spoke w/ joe @ rosen and he said they just grind the key slot on the stock gear to get a little extra play. no it's not AS adjustable, but according to him, unless you've done all the bolt-ons, it's not really worth spending the $$ on adj. cam gears.

wouldn't increasing the compression give a gain across the power band?
