Ok I just put my WRX hood scoop on my classic and I was just wondering if you guys have any problem driving it in the rain.

How are these setup on wrxs and other cars that come with them factory, that allows them to be run regardless of weather?

i wouldnt worry about it...if you had a fmic, thing about it, that would be getting wet too.

Its not the fmic getting wet thats the problem , its the water underhood. pooling around spark plugs and whatnot i imagine.

i guess you would have to look at maybe how subaru does it?

subarus motor is h and we have an inline 4..very diff. and the location of their electronics is covered up..149 for the pipes/120 for i/c and maybe 100 in misc u can have a fmic..not only the plugs kill..but the water going into the maf/dizzy/wiring harness...just imagine driving around in that storm last week with a scoop

condensation will get into the spark plug wires proning them to burn out.. i say nay. unless you put another scoop type thing on the bottom of the scoop itself to push the air towards the intake manifold rather then ontop of head.. if anyone has a pic of a pulsar hood undershot youll see what i mean...

the wrx has a rubber housing around the hoodscoop on the inside of the hood. It sits around the IC to create flow right to the IC. The rubber is pretty thick from what i can remember and i dont think it strays from the ic. What happens when it drops through the IC is beyond me.

u know the new celicas have a similar scoop that goes onto the header(rear of motor) and theirs no issue...they also have that thick rubber gasket on them..dont know about that since its very rainy in jersey

on a wrx when it drops behind the intercooler remember it falls on intake manifold soo subaru desgned an engine good for hoodscoop even though the engine was designed way before the scoop was thought of on b13 ,b14,b15 itll always fall on the sparkplugs, wires which isnt good... you must direct the air goin in to the back of the motor preferably rar of intake manifold... go home depot buy a sheet of metal an fab one up

why did nissan put hood scoops on there cars then

i have the same problem with my GTIR hood.
i think the reason for WRXs not having the problems is the same as the GTIRs on the intercooler they have that metal shround that goes over the cooler. this in turn acts like a drip tray. allowing the water to flow off the cooler and away from the plugs.

why did nissan put hood scoops on there cars then

nissan put scoops where it needed to go.. on the 83-84 300zx turbo the water would go str8 down an they did build a shield for it not to go on exhuast manifold an what not..

r34 skyline has lil napa duct an it also flows air down to exhuast manifold location also has shields so no crap gets in there

pulsar under hood scoop has a flap so no debry gets on the valve cover an plugs.. like water ,leafs, snow balls.. now if the flaps are old an burnt up liek many are.. the intercoolers on pulsars with have lil bit of surface rust on the corners of the cover of the intercooler...

all vehicles that have scoops have a back up plan for shit like water an snow
so even though it might lok nice scoops can become a headache..

notice the u13 (altima) nor the u12 (stanza)have scoops... an theyre top mounted intercooled soo imagine all the abuse that poor engine went threw even on not that much load..
