: Best cams???
osideracer 03-13-2002, 05:47 PM i was wondering, what cams for the sr20 do you guys think are the best and which ones produce the most hp gains? i was doing research and found out that toda, jwt, bullfrog, and jun all make cams for the sr20. *** wondering which ones produce the most power. thanx.
spdracerUT 03-13-2002, 05:49 PM Huh.... good question... either way, you'll have to get some really aggressive cams to make the "most power" which will also require new springs and retainers. You won't go wrong with JWT, Toda, or JUN, dunno about Bullfrog.

kpw97 03-13-2002, 07:18 PM Uh oh....here we go again. Before we get into a JWT vs. JUN vs. TODA vs. TOMEI arguement, I'll say a few words.
First, you need to do some research and decide what type of "power" you're looking for (more area under the curve, more top end, etc). You can figure that out from the type of driving you do.
After that, I'd search the archives a little bit to help familiarize yourself with what's out there. Then come back here and let us know what you think. We'll help you on the right track from there.
On a side note, all of the cams are of good quality except bullfrog. My understanding is that they are regrinds and do not produce power at all..... That's what is stated on se-r.net at least.
osideracer 03-13-2002, 09:53 PM i want a decent gain throughout the powerband. i dont want to sacrifice any hp in the lower rpms so that i can have hp gains in the top end. im kinda leaning towards the jwt s4 cams but i cant find any figures or dyno sheets on them. im gonna looking.
kpw97 03-14-2002, 01:22 PM Here are some dyno sheets for the s3 and s4's
JWT S3 and S4 cams (http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292170409)
You might also want to consider JUN, TOMEI, or TODA. A pair of their 256's with 10.5 mm lift will give good gains as well. Although they are not as well documented. The tomei ones were found to give similar gains similar to the s3's and s4's with a little better area under the curve with ecu, IIRC. I'm sure I'll get flaimed for this........
The choice is really up to you.... Depends how much you're willing to risk as well. The foreign mfg's aren't documented as well, but do appear to offer gains that are in the same area..... Do whatever makes you feel most comfortable:)
97 Black SER 03-14-2002, 02:45 PM CAn't go wrong with S3's or S4's for street use. If you want more high end, I'd say go with C2's or higher lift JUN or Toda cams. I love my 264's on the street. I wonder how the 272's will idle....;)
martin_g34 03-14-2002, 04:22 PM I know all of you are talking about after-market cams, but I was wondering if it was worth putting on a Primera intake cam on my 99 SR20. My friend has a 91 SE-R intake cam laying around but if the Primera will produce more power maybe I should find one. Any thoughts?? TIA

DaGenesis 03-14-2002, 05:19 PM i have a jdm intake cam on my car
i bought it from andreas miko, he said the jdm cam is a little more aggressive than the us 91-93 cam
its installed now, and works great
spudnex 03-14-2002, 08:49 PM What about cams for turbo apps? Think I remember reading a post awhile back that said the C3/C4 cams didn't work well with turbo. The S3/S4 were fine. Is there any truth to this?

Ok as far as I know, (AFAIK) any of the mentioned cams can be used with turbos. HOWEVER, some are much more suitable for street use. Such as the S series cams. I don't know the exacts but the C series are much more aggressive, their power curve (I believe) starts later then the other cams thereby making them unideal for street use. But when you're shooting for a 400hp+ track monster, street use goes out the window.
DaGenesis 03-14-2002, 11:26 PM i think they said that s3's are great for the t25 & t28
and s4's are better for t3/4
Calum 03-15-2002, 02:10 AM Bullfrog sr20 cams are regrinds. Be warned!
The rest are good quality. Crower also makes some from billets, they're fairly mild grinds. There are a couple of other companies that make cams as well (from billets), but JWT are well documented and easy to buy in the states.

osideracer 03-16-2002, 02:58 PM thanx for all the info guys.

Trust me, they idle very rough. JAck laverty has them in his racecar with a jwt ecu with the s3/s4 idle program. Sound outright nasty.
domiguy 03-16-2002, 07:43 PM What other cams can I use with the S4 program on a JWT ECU, and I mean other as in other manufacturers, Tomei, Jun, etc.
