i did the ghetto intake box modification on my car to remove stuff for my cold air intake during shop class on tuesday, so today i decided to make a video recording the sound of it. sorry about the wind in the first one. in the second one you can really hear the intake growl. btw, the car in the second was just a idiot friend trying to interfere in the video.

how do to the ghetto intake box:

this method is the cheap and easy, there is a more professional way to do it also, but requires cutting on the intake box...

unscrew the bottum half of your intake box and remove it and the piping going to the back of the headlight. take your airfilter and zip tie it to the top of your intake box. use a couple zip ties in a couple difference places to make sure it doesn't fall off. since you are still filtering the air that comes in, you are doing no harm to your motor! once done with this, zip tie the entire tip half of the intake box to the battery post that's behind the battery. you do not have to do this, but if you don't want your intake assembly moving around then i recommend you do this. and wha-lah! you are finished.

note, i doubt this will gain much power, if any. it just makes your car sound really cool.

also, i'm pretty sure ben (forum owner) came up with this idea, so all credit goes to him. he brought this modification to kansas during the kc geekout.

anyways, the file is only like 500kb in size so it's not huge. enjoy. :)

I purchased a 1991 NX2000 with 32,000 back in '94. in '95 I began reading Sport Compact, Turbo, etc. and wanted to get a Hi-Flo intake. In the meantime, I did a Ghetto style intake until I ordered my Stillen/K&N intake in late '95 or early '96.

This was somewhat a simple task and worked wonders as well. But the most noticeable difference would have been if you go ahead and buy a drop in K&N filter for your OEM box. This will give you an increase in HP. probably 2-5Hp max.

Take the air box out of the car. Get a drill bit that will drill 1" or bigger holes. Drill holes evenly spaced across the entire lower front of the air box right behind the battery. Voila! Ghetto intake.

I no longer have the car and when I sold it I actually replaced the Stillen/K&N Hi-Flo intake with a tiolet drain pipe, some silicone, and a foam air filter. Worked great. Hehehe! Looked good too!

The Stillen/K&N is now on my '96 G20.

If you ever get crazy and say "hey, lets buy a JWT pop charger." Please don't, and do the ghetto air box mod! You'll be happy and $120 richer!

Yeah, I would say well more closer to the 2HP. The best thing I notice when I did it, was the response. The tubing on the Sentra after the airbox is only like 9-10 inches long, so it wasnt too much better to remove it and bottom part of box. But on my sisters 1.8l corrolla, it was unbelievable. After the airbox was about 32-24 inches of tubing that had 3 90degree turns in it. Just removing the tubing itself opened it right up, and sounds mean as hell now. There is hardly any hesitation now when you punch it.

Yeah, I was going to say.... it's no where near 5hp. More like 2hp, if even. I saw a dyno where someone lost 1hp from a cone filter. Too much heat in there from the engine bay.

i know that i probably lost horsepower in the change, but i did it because my place racing cold air intake is on the way. i decided to clean that area out and just do the ghetto intake to make it sound good until i got the part.
