: Sealing valve cover?

What should I use to seal the valve cover? I recently replaced the gasket and the FSM called for "liquid gasket". I'm a f@#$ing monkey so I used Permatex Gasket Maker without the activator, so now I have a bunch of gooey sh!t on there that I need to clean off. So I was wondering if anyone knew exactly what product I should buy to seal this mofo.

Edit: Yes, I do have the rubber valve cover gasket. I'm talking about the extra shit the FSM calls for.

Thanks in advance,

Permatex Red for the valve cover. That is exactly what the dealer handed me. You only use it on the parts with curves on it.

The FSM calls for a continuous bead around the head..but you say just the curved parts? Did you put your valve cover on this way and did it leak? I'll do whatever works as I can barely understand the FSM and am a crappy mechanic in general :)

I just replaced my VC gasket and spark plug gaskets. What I did was put all the gaskets on the VC, then I applied regular RTV sealent around the gasket. Placed on the VC and tightened it down.

On a side note, I replaced 3 nuts on the VC and when I get a change I will be replacing the rest, b/c I noticed they original nuts are starting to strip.

The stuff they gave you was kinda orange wasn't it? The reason Nissan dealers use that is so that they can tell what has been worked on and what hasn't, what you really want to use is *GREY* RTV I believe...its made for Aluminum surfaces...non-corrosive...hope this helps!
