: Switching oil

Well, it's coming up time to change my oil and since I have a garage now I'm going to put the money into synthetic oil rather than JiffyLube service. I'm figuring on Mobil 1 since that's what it seems most folks here are using. My question is this: in going from dino to synthetic oil, is there anything extra I need to do? Is there some cleaning of the engine that needs to be done before the new oil goes in, or can I just do the usual oil change routine?

TIA

No... nothing special you need to do.

If you wanted to be anal (like me) =) you could always poor some money down the drain by pooring a qt. of new oil through the engine after you let all the old oil drain out. This is a lot cheaper when you use Castrol GTX (like my Si) vers Mobil 1 (like my '96).

Some people say this is not needed... and they'd be right... but it doesn't hurt, and it DOES flush the engine. Is it worth it? Probably during change over... to help get all the old oil out before you run Syn. I do it about every 15k on my SE-R and about every 6k on the Si.

Btw, even though you are switching to Mobil 1... the BEST thing you can do for the life of your engine is to change the oil as often as you can. Even with Synthetic oil, I wouldn't go past 3k if you can help it.

Hope that answers your question...

Thanks Yosh, that's what I figured but I wanted to be sure.
