Run, do not walk, to you local newsstand and get the May 2002 Grassroots Motorsports. They have a JWT built SE-R turbo (B15). Allow me to quote:

"The end result is an engine that can be tuned to put out up to 280 hp to the wheels - if the boost is cranked up. In order to increase traction at the autocross, we ran the car in the 'low boost' setting and still recorded 236 hp to the front wheels."

0-60: 6.0 sec (traction limited)

Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about. Too bad it doesn't come that way from Nissan...

Thats the disco potato. Its been in Sport Compact Car a couple of times and in the Sport Compact Car challenge.

Yes the car is very fast, I've riden in it. It even stops good enough to flat spot tires right down to the cords. ;)

its a 2000 Sentra Se.

The marketing guys over at Nissan thought they should put a se-r bumper, badges and floor mats in it though. Thats why it resembles a SE-R now.

And yes it got its name from the crazy paint job.

Where in the magazine is it? I looked through, and didn't see it. Mine has a Spec V on the cover.

just to clarify the name:
disco = colorful paint
potato = "frumpy" design of B15

not to be nitpicky, you guys were just leaving out my favorite reason behind the name! :)

page 44. They tested some tuner cars at the end of their Pocket Rocket smackdown.

Sorry for the false alarm. GRM listed it as an SE-R and since there were no B15 SE-Rs until this year, I made the mistaken assumption that someone had done this to a new 2.5L SE-R. Sorry.

No where in their little write up do they specify whether it's a 2.0 or 2.5. Add this one line: "When Nissan wanted a display for the SEMA Show that would highlight what is possible with their new Sentra SE-R..." and you can see why I thought it was, well, a new SE-R with a turbo.

Yes, not that Steve guy. Mike couldn't get involved in the sport compact car challenge this year so someone else had to run the car.

My only hope is that GRM doesn't get pulled into the Primedia cult.

I'm definately picking this issue up. I hear it has a spread on my other car - the Daimler SP250. Cool! :D
