I am trying to correctly set the timing on my car. I have read that you need to disconnect the TPS connector. On my 93 auto NX the lead that goes to the TPS branches into 2 connectors. If I disconnect connector #1 the timing reads slightly higher than with it connected. If I also disconnect connector #2 it reads a little higher still. My question is should both be disconnected when setting timing? Connector #1 has red, white and black wires. Connector #2 has green, white and green/white combo wires. The stick SR20's I have looked at only have connector #1, I think. I'm not sure what the second connector is for, or if only automatics have it.

Accoding to my fsm or how i read it is that the 3 pin connector thats flat is the TPS and the square 4 pin plug is the closed throtle position switch. thats for the auto tranny. or something like that. its only on the autos, the manual's got a different tps on them that has the plug down on the TB itself. Whats werid is they dont have a specfic test for the auto for the tps voltage settings. just for the closed throtle positon switch. dang autos...

What's funny/strange, is that the FSM for a B13 shows only the TPS for an automatic SR20. The 3 wire connector is the one to disconnect. Are you putting the car in timing mode after you disconnect the TPS?

I do rev the engine 3 times after disconnecting the TPS, but I don't understand what doing that does?
