I recently blew my motor and bought another motor to replace it....so currently I have a SR20DE sitting in my garage with just blown piston rings. The motor is out of my 1999 Infiniti G20t with only 62K miles. What I want to know is what to do with it. I am researching on the possibilities of building it. What should I do? any recommendations? I am thinking of building it for a turbo setup so of course lower compression but what else? Do I need to get the block resleeved? Can I knife edge the SR20DE crankshaft? thinks like these questions I need answered. This is going to be one long project due to slow incoming funds. If anyone else is interested in the motor let me know. I might just sell it then...I believe it is almost the same as a 98+ SR20DE Sentra/200SX SE-R. TIA

your best bet would be to get a JDM SR20DET, Try n pick up a low milage blk top motor. Maybe u can swap in the ECU too not sure about that one. it would be the best way to go IMHO
**ohh your in my neck of the woods hehe****

I would consider getting some Wiseco 9.0:1 CR pistons and keeping the stock rods. The stock rods can handle ~450 hp. The weak link in the motor are the pistons. Even if you get an SR20DET you will run into the same problem; the pistons are still cast!

i put the 9 to 1 pistons you are talking about in my gti-r or i am installing them should i say. from what i know the sr20de block is pretty much the same as the det. i have a friend that has the se-r block with those pistons, crower rods and a stage three f-max turbo upgrade and can run 30 psi off the bottom end. keep what you got and just build it is what i say. the only thing i am doing to mine is pistons, rods, rings, clean the head, and gasket matching the intake/exhaust.
oh yeah forgot to add, i got the pistons for $399.

Well it depends on how deep into it your goin to go. It might just be easy to get a stock engine and run it. Sometimes rebuilding can suck the life out of you if u don't get it done right. I went through that shit with one of my old cars. I'd say go for the forged pistons if u are goin to push for max hp, but if it's just to have a turbo engine and u only want to make 250-300hp just get a det. (yeah yeah why would u only want that much hp? hey some people only want so much :) )

hmmm...but the 2K to buy a DET...couldn't I just put it into my motor in the garage? and be better than a DET?

well if u can get a good shop to rebuild the engine right with the forged pistons so u get very lil piston slap when ur car is warming up. It's all goin to come down to guy that rebuilding the motor, If he dose a good job it will be the best 2k u ever spent. If he fuks up your goin to have to come out of the pocket with more money. To get it done right the 1st time. Just don't count how much u spend and you won't think about it much.

I'm a lil out of date at this point. Only shops I can think of are Hundo shops. but what u need is just a shop to yank and install your engine. U should take the engine to a machine shop that can build it right, u can try benson but they are packed for dayz and prob won't get to your engine for months.
