What do you guys think?
sr20jet 03-02-2006, 02:31 PM You should be able to search on how to remove the shift knob. I'll tell you this, it ain't easy as it seems to remove.
OneSlow1.6 03-02-2006, 06:08 PM i hacksawed that bitch off!
jer_760 03-02-2006, 06:35 PM Take the shifter and linkage off the car as a whole. Put the knob in a vise or park a car with the tire over the knob, and use the linkage for leverage to unscrew it.
Michaelmr2 03-03-2006, 12:15 AM ok, did you look at that ebay item, its started at .99 and no bids yet. Looks nice.
Im gonna bid on it. What do you guys thinks.
BTW...im a newbie here but have had the 97 200 sx se-r since 1998
captainzib 03-03-2006, 08:22 AM The stock shift knob in my 91 SE-R screwed right off. But I understand where you guys are coming from as I've heard some shit about trying to remove em from friends.
gtswrx 03-03-2006, 01:16 PM Be strong and do it with knob on, it is not impossible.

Mecha_Trueno 03-08-2007, 09:12 PM one i thing i make sure of, we DO all have the same stock shift knobs right? i drive a 180sx (SR20DET) and i just wanna be sure that everything ive read here and in this thread (http://www.sr20forum.com/showthread.php?t=30670&highlight=shift+remove) is applicable to me as well
CovertRussian 03-15-2007, 12:49 AM It's the leather wrapped stock SE-R/SE-L one. I had a hard time taking mine of, I have a '99 Sentra SE-L, i just ended up hacking my way through it :D
Mecha_Trueno 03-15-2007, 10:02 PM how come when i twist it a bit harder i get the feeling something inside/underneath is gonna brake?
B14 Se-Rious 03-16-2007, 01:34 AM you brought back a very a old thread.

Exactly over a year lol

Don't worry there is pretty much nothing underneath the knob. The shifter knob is screwed in/glued to the shifter (the metal rod). I just took pliers a knife and a knife with the little teeth and started hacking away lol.
Now the rod has a groove in it, so you could screw in another one etc. But I wanted to cut the rod also, 2-3 inches. So i had to then buy an aftermarket shifter knob.

Also, the nice leather shifter boot kept on falling down. See the stock rod has two flat spots sticking out, kinda like this -o-, this holds the boot from falling down, but since I cut it right below that there was nothing to stop the boot from falling down, so I just raised it all the way and put a thick layer of black duct tape to stop it from falling, and now its working no problem :biggthump
Mecha_Trueno 04-03-2007, 01:22 PM you brought back a very a old thread.
i just thought people prefer newbs to use the search rather than start a new thread for every small detail

I did that too..... but i did it with the Momo goodness. Now i need to replace the collar on my shift knob :(
~KnuckleDuster~ 04-03-2007, 09:47 PM Its not worth the hassle of twisting it off. Theres a plastic nut screwd and glued to the threads. Easiest possible was is with a razor blade. Slice off the leather on the outside. Once thats off you will have to cut through aprox 1/2 inch the rubber knob thats left. Press down at the top of the knob with the razor blade and work your way to the front and back in a straight line. You will then be able to simply peel the knob into 2 peices. You will see the plastic nut were talking about. Remove that with a pair of pliars. Install new knob accordingly.
