Hello everyone.

I did a search on this topic but I couldnt find any specifics to what I was looking for.

My problem;

I have a JDM SR20DE but it has no compression. I want to know, how can I fix this? What tips can you guys give me? Also, should I take advantage of this and maybe replace parts?

I dont have too much mechanical experience but know something to survive I guess.:rofl: but I want to be able to fix it myself to learn (or at least try ;) )

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

NO compression? That's not good. That means the piston rings are probably shot. I'm almost tempted to say to just buy a new engine. I mean if this one has no compression, who knows what else is wrong with it.

you'd have to take it apart first. I can probably be saved. I'd replace all the piston rings, rod bearings, and water pump. Have to see what condition the cylinder walls are in, might have to be bored out a bit which would require new pistons; but it might not.

Right, so in other words, get a new JDM DE motor for $400 or so and you can boost that and make 350whp or something. It will be cheaper and much easier in the end to just get a new motor.

If you want to do something extreme, you can build the old motor over time untill you have a beastly motor done right.

Just my opinions.

Luckly I have a new water pump and I was thinking or bored the engine anyway. I have a friend that owns a shop.

it sounds like you understand what is involved here.

Get in touch with people in your area that know FWD SR20 motors, there are quite a few of them.

thats exactly what I was thinking, you got to at least see it for yourself before you shell out $400 for a new engine and send that one to the trash. The other guy could have had a busted compression tester or been checking it wrong, you can believe anything anyone says, you got to check it for yourself to be absolutely sure.

buy a tester, and if there truly is no compresion you can try a little trick and pour some motor oil in the cylinder to get compression. if it keeps going down after that then you probably need new rings or some valves are bent.

they are more like 10 bucks at harbor freight.

Youscrew it in to one of the spark plug holes with the motor hot and all the spark plug wires disconnected so the motor doesnt start. You turn the motor over 4 times and then read the gauge. You can release the pressure and do the next cylinder.

IIRC a stock DET motor 8.5:1 should be around 155-160 all the way across on a fresh motor. Mine is like 145-155 all the way across and it runs ok.
