: Amplifier installation in B14's!!
chipey23 03-05-2006, 10:28 AM I have some trouble figuring out exactly where to mount my amps. I plan on running two. One for the subs and another for the speakers but I'm not sure where I'm gonna put them. I know I won't put them on those fold down seats, that's a no no for where I live. So you guys can post pics of your installation or give a description of where it is, it might be helpful.
Sentrixx 03-05-2006, 10:48 AM Whats wronge with being on the seats? How is that a "no no"?
DEAD SE-RIOUS 03-05-2006, 12:58 PM why not under the seats?

Heh! If they are already in your car. No matter where you put them they are gonna find them! Its all about bolthing them down correctly so that it takes to much time and effort for it to be worth the risk of them taking the time to unbolt them and pull them out.

I agree... One way bolts are always a good investment. But I have had amps under my seat before and mounted. But they have to be small. Esp if you have riders in the back because someone will always kick it and or have there feet on it which will cause bent and or broken connections. Just from experience.
SUPER"FAKA"MAN 03-06-2006, 01:34 AM These are pretty much your two best option's: under front seat's and on the back of the fold down seat's. Unless you don't use your spare tire and put the amps there?!

Under the front seats shouldnt even be considerd an option unless the amp never gets hot, and I can only think of a few amps that NEVER get hot and they arent cheap. Heat Kills an amps SQ and power.
Mount them on the fold down seat. That way when your playing the music loud you can fold the seat down and let the amps breathe.
Blue93G20 03-06-2006, 02:29 AM buy an alarm and put them on your seats. I do install and deal with people who have had their stuff stolen all the time, it doesn't matter where its at if the want it they are going to get it.

I'm not sure I understand this post. I had 2 audiobahn amps (relatively cheap) which come with fans. BUT, for air circulation, I couldn't find a better spot for my amps. If I was in the car for long periods of time, I had the a/c turned on for my feet and kept that air circulating. I would think with the air vents down there, that that would be the BEST place available.
But what Sentrixx and others have noted, my amps got stepped on a lot which led to my rca's to get torn to shreds when people sat in the back, plus spilling a drink fried 1 amp, so there's other things to consider.
Take out the spare tire and put the amps there, if anything. I haven't had a spare for the past 3 years (knocks on wood).
sinistersntra91 03-11-2006, 03:46 PM Take out your spare tire and do a hidden sub\amp install like I did on my B13. I made a box to fit in my spare tire wheel well and then I mounted the amps to the metal bottom of the trunk which works great as a ground and it dissapates the heat real well then all I did was take the thinnest piece of plywood I could find to save weight and not muffle the sub too much, built it up a little bit to go over the subs and its like magic you hear subs but see no subs confuses crooks, but that should not be your only line of defense you should have an alarm to protect your goods as well.
Sentrixx 03-11-2006, 04:11 PM Ok.. So where is your tire for a flat now?
Just my 2 cents.. But I don't know why people like this setup the most. I personally don't like the fact that I might have to leave my car some where because of a flat tire.
sinistersntra91 03-11-2006, 04:35 PM how often do you get a flat? Even so cant you keep the spare in your garage or somewhere someone can get it and bring it to you? I mean you should have friends or relatives that can bring it to you........
Brakedust 03-12-2006, 07:56 PM I've had two rockford fosgate amps under my seats for years now without any problems. Of course my system consisted of one amp running 2 ohms to a single 10", and the other amp running front door speakers...not much of a load.

noneed117 03-12-2006, 09:19 PM I have two amps one under each seat in my b14 and they do fine i put some dc fans to keep air moving under there and used a piece of billet to make a cover for the side facing the rear seats works quite well.
