How to install the rocker arm retainer spring in the GTIR head?

From looking in the service manual it looks like pic 2 is the correct way.. But Ive had 2 heads with the springs as in pic 1.........?

i don't have a gti-r but i would think that the first pic is right cause it has that recess.

I got my share of GTIR heads. Pic 1 is correct. Pic 2 is upside down.

I always thought the correct way was pic 1... But looking in the service manual got me confused. It shows them installed like pic 2 !!??

The head has just been cleaned in some sort of machine (think it was ultra sound cleaning) Thats how I got it so clean..

Then had seats/ valves cut, ported, fitted with S3M cams, JUN springs and JUN titanium retainers.

Looks like everyone agrees its pic 1 thats correct then...

Strange why the factory service manual shows as pic 2 :rolleyes:

I thought they were Jun springs, retainers.... I have a set sitting on the shelf. they aint cheap....
