: Get your fender crud out....
Guppy737 03-08-2006, 01:34 AM I was checking one of my door speakers and happened to look down into the bottom of the fender area, forward of the lower door hinge. A few leaves and twigs caught my eye. No big deal, I thought.....grabbed the vac to suck them out.
Well, I could not BELIEVE the amount of garbage that was stuck down in there...14 yrs worth, apparently. It literally looked like someone had dumped potting soil down there. Took me over an hour with a homemade tool and a powerful vacuum to clean both sides.
So of course I get done and get on the forum to see of anyone else has had this problem....and find out it's common for B13s. No wonder they rust through around that area!! Glad I'm in a dry climate....no rust here.
Anyway, my point is to check down there when you get a chance. Unless you enjoy rust. I could not believe the amount of garbage I found.
Shawn B 03-08-2006, 02:52 AM Yes, we know about this problem.
Try undoing the screws where mudflaps would be, the screws under that section of the body, down along the rail, and gently pull the body away from the frame about an inch....and it will all fall out. Run a hose through it, re-attach the screws and you're done.
There's a write-up of it somewhere....I think on this site....probably.....

Is that ^^^ right? Someone?
Good reminder though, I should check mine.
Welcome to the forum. :)
jerryeads 03-08-2006, 07:53 AM Yup. You can pull out the fenders down at the bottom just in front of the doors by pulling a few 10mm head screws here and there - don't get too rambunctious or you'll bend sheet metal, but with just a little care you can loosen them up and back them away; be prepared to see an amazing pile of stuff in there. Some sort of stiff fabric (not wire) brush, after you finish with the shovel or backhoe, will be in order to get the caked mud off the surfaces.

Watch out on those screws on the bottom of the fender -- they might be rusty and you snap them off. Hit them with some rust eater or WD40 or whatever before you try it if you have an older car.

Horus 03-08-2006, 09:20 AM Save it! Its used as cure-all in some traditional healing.

jerryeads 03-08-2006, 11:02 AM And how are these things on all that snowpack?? Spring here already - - - -
cmotek24 03-08-2006, 12:11 PM i had dirt packed 6 inches high! after forcing the water hose through it (didn't take off the fender), I also found a nice 2" diameter rusted-out hole in the body... :(
Benito Malito 03-08-2006, 01:08 PM I always just hit it with a hose. If its really bad you can pull the fender liner back. In fact I just got another SE-R and it needs to have this done.

Yeah for like 3 weeks now. A guy from Cinci came and got it like a minute after I stepped off the plane in NY.
I bought liupj's SE-R on Saturday. I'll start another thread and post some pics. My first batch of pics was kinda lousy, and its been raining in Seattle for a few days now. Nobody said anything about rain.
Beofore I hit a track I need a radiator. Hopefully that will arrive by Thrusday.
pertuzian 03-13-2006, 09:08 PM Yep! My SE-R, which is otherwise rust-free (other than some incipient stuff on the deck lid lip due to a leaking taillight gasket) despite the last 7 1/2 years in Detroit, has a small hole in the driver's inner fender thanks to the crap in there that I only noticed and cleaned out a year and a half ago. I'd long known about that spot, but the stuff was harder to spot than I expected.
