So they started clicking, i assume its a torn boot. Haven't looked yet. What are my options? How much are rebuilt CV's, and where can i purchase them? How much should I expect installation to run if i don't install them myself?
Also - my wheel bearings aren't sounding so hot either. Maybe they just need to be re-packed? How much does that usually run?

IT's funny you ask that as my car is in the shop today having that very thing done. My CV's went for $99 rebuilt and $82 installed at Pepboys. If you have both sides done at the same time they will probably give you a break on labor too. Hope this helps.

Axles aren't hard to replace yourself. Even I can do it... :D
The wheel bearings are a little tougher because they have to be pressed in. I don't have a press, so I had to get it done. So, since they are related, I'd just go ahead and get them both done at the same time.
I need to do both also. I read in the manual that, at least the rear wheel bearing wasn't pressed in. Is it just the front thats pressed in?
For the CV joint, I think I'm just going to replace the boot. I've never done it before, but they sell the boot for $13.00

if your axles are clicking, i don't think a new boot won't solve the problem. the clicking means damage has already been done from the lack of lubrication: i.e. the boot splitting and all the grease flying out.
just get a new axle, they aren't all that expensive. Chances are, the replacements will last the life of the car, under normal driving (not racing). :D good luck!

Anybody know if the rear bearings are pressed in or not? The book says the rear bearings just come right out.
I'm planning on repacking the bearings this weekend, any help before then would really be appreciated!!!

Its been a really long time but if I remember right they are not pressed in. My brother in law and I did this in his garage. It shouldnt be that bad of a job to do.

From what I remember the rear bearings on my 91 se-r Classic were sealed units, you can't "pack" them- "Rear bearing-Hub assy". Just that 30MM(i think thats the size) nut holding it.

My boot was torn, with no clicking whatsoever.
So I bought a CV Boot Kit from Courtesy. Well, looking into the procedure, you have to take out the shaft, disassemble the inner cv joint, slide the new boot from the inside towards the outside, clean and repack the outer CV joint, and reinstall it all with new oil seals.
And thats hoping your joints aren't damaged yet. (And if they are slightly damaged, they'll be clicking in no time *after* you do this.
For $100, just exchanging the whole rebuilt shaft is worth it to me.
If you still want to replace just the boot, Ive got the whole kit I'll sell you for $20 + shipping. (Courtesy sells this for like $30 or something) It is brand new in the box.
