: Idle Speed...

Sorry for posting this in the General Forum, but I had originally posted this in the Technical Forum and never recieved any replies:

My dad decided to raise the idle speed on my car to about 900 RPM to temporarily try and stop the RPM's from coming down too far and having the car stall upon deceleration until we can actually find and fix the problem. I know the idle speed should be set at 750 +-50 RPM. My car would idle around 750-800 before. Are there any ill effects to having the idle speed set at 900 RPM? TIA.

I wouldn't think so. The JWT S-series and C-series cam ECU programs raise the idle level also. I can't thin of any ill effects except very slightly higher gas cosumption and emissions at idle.

I have my idle set to 1000 rpm because I have ES motor mounts and the engine was vibrating really bad at 700. I have had it up for a while w/ no problems.

None as long as it doesn't bother you and don't mind paying for a little more gas. :D

Have you done a full tune up to see if that would help you cure the problem? I know that it's simple and you probably have done it already. But you didnt' mention what steps you have done to troubleshoot why your car is stalling.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Detailed information about my stalling problem and the steps I've taken to look into the problem (including a visit to the dealer) are contained in a couple of threads in the Technical Forum.

I'm beggining to suspect that my AIV valve is clogged up with crap. I say that because of the massive amount of dirt I just shook out of the intake resonator box in which my breather filter and AIV valve attach to.

When I have more time on my hands, I'll look into the problem further.

Thanks again.

The AAC valve could be to blame, thats where you adjust your idle at...have you cleand that yet? Try capping off your EGR and see if that helps...also, clean your throttle body, I hope I'm not saying things you've already done...but, I have slow internet so it would take forever to load your page..

You want to know what's funny, ever since my dad raised my idle speed slightly (it's actually idleing right at 800 now, not 900 like I had thought), the car hasn't even sputtered when coasting down or come close to stalling. It was 60 degrees yesterday, the prime tempature for it to act up, and it didn't act up once. It's been 4 days since my dad has ajusted the idle speed. The problem started occuring after the car hadn't been driven for about 8 days. I had broken my toe and couldn't drive the car since it was my clutch foot that was affected. Maybe something with the idle got screwed up and somehow adjusting it slightly fixed it? I'm at a loss, lol.

PS: My throttle body was cleaned by Nissan about 6 months ago, so I knew it wasn't that causing the problem.
