: 93-SE-R no power takes to long to get to 5,000rpm
SE-Ridiculous 03-18-2002, 05:35 PM JUST bought my first SE-R
I need help.. I just got this se-r and it has less power than my 93
xe model??the compresition is fine 165-170-170-180.I tried to reach 6000rpm but barely gets ther. no power, cant even get my head to jurk like with my little trusty XE...O.K. I changed the following: dist, dist cap & rotor, spark plugs and wires(ngk)
fuel filter, air filter are there other parts that should be changed
I dont know about since the sr20 is fairly new to me.. also when I unplug spark plug wire #2 it doesn't buckle as bad as the others do. the injectors are working and are getting power... please Help
me !!!!!! oh and I wanna thank every one who checks this and trys to help
P.S.
Im a newbie only by title!!!lol lol:confused:
gsr20det 03-18-2002, 05:54 PM The compression is a little wack, from 165 to 180 is almost a 10% variance. I'd check it again.
Where's your base timing right now? Also, pull any codes from the ECU and drop the exhaust and check the cat to see if it's plugged. Does the car pull above 5K? If so, I'll put money on a bad detonation sensor and low base timing (like 10-12 degrees).
It's probably nothing we can't figure out.

SE-Ridiculous 03-18-2002, 06:13 PM I wrote it wrong 165/170/170/180:D
and the ecu code 21 so i changed the coil no diffference
and the car barely makes it past 5500rpm. As for bad detonation
sensor were is it located timing is 13-15 dont remember
The cat ??? gotta check that!but will it only affect on cylinder
(the cat being bad)... thanks
gsr20det 03-18-2002, 06:22 PM I know you're in the factory spec for compression test, but the 165 is on the low side.
Mmm, got a bad ignition coil code. I've never seen that one personally. Does the car miss and hesitate, or it just doesn't like to rev? Backfires, stumbling, dropping revs at idle, etc?
The car doesn't throw any codes now and it still runs like poop? You might need to check the cams to make sure they didn't skip a tooth or something.
Tom
SE-Ridiculous 03-18-2002, 06:35 PM It doesn't hesitate to shut off or stumble or chokes it feels like im driving a honda LOL LOL!!!!!!
gsr20det 03-18-2002, 06:45 PM Mmm, and it's no longer popping a code? Re-check the simple things like plug wires, etc. It might be a couple of little things that add up to make it suck.
Unfortunately, you might have to go through the car step by step, but this way you'll know what everything is doing and be able to pin-point trouble quicker next time.
Does the car pass emissions?
Tom
SERboy 03-18-2002, 07:48 PM take off the VC and look at your cams, maybe they are really worn out, kinda like mine were. too bad i didnt check earlier, b/c i then popped a rocker arm and now got metal shavingings all in my old engine. umm...how many miles on your engine?
SE-Ridiculous 03-18-2002, 07:51 PM MLS:115,000 and thanks Im gonna do that tommorrow:)
what should I look for when I take it off.(VC)
NismoPC 03-18-2002, 08:24 PM 1. Try cleaning the throttle body real good.
2. Check the negative ground on the MAF sensor.
3. Make sure your using NGK spark plugs and not Autolites, Bosch, etc. (Shoudn't cause car to run like it is though.
4. Check for any vaccum leaks (doubt it's that).
5. Make sure your EGR isn't clogged/not working.
6. Even though the injectors are working, they might be clogged(long shot)
I am putting my guess on two things. EGR or injector #2
Testing the EGR:
Easiest way to test that is to remove the rubber tubing between the EGR and BPT and tap the holes off with rubber nipples. Any auto parts store carries them. If the car runs strong after nippling them off, your EGR when caplooeey or needs cleaned out.
Testing injectors (Not recommended by many and not the best way to test, but it works):
While car is running pull the #2 plug wire off the spark plug and if the car doesnt seem to idle any differently, the #2 injector is not working and needs replaced.

yeah!!gotta try that again. when I did it the first time the distrib..
was crushed in the in side looks like they put a g20 or ga16 dist on it
ak555 03-18-2002, 10:01 PM My vote is for plugged catalytic converter :)
gsr20det 03-18-2002, 10:30 PM What kind of distributor is on the car?? Did something happen to the motor and the distributor was replaced? Make sure you got the right kind of distributor and cap on that puppy.
You just got the car, right? Was it in a bad wreck beforehand? It could be some funky wiring job, a really, really badly ground maf will result the car going into safe mode and it wont rev past 5K.
Try resetting the ECU and checking it for a code after the car runs like shit.

andris 03-19-2002, 01:12 AM also might be the fuel pump dying. Mine was having a slow death a while back and resulted in slow acceleration for awhile before gradualting to stumbling, lurching, etc..
they are a little difficult to diagnose *** without a fuel pressure gauge. Mine is dying for the second time, but still passed the FSM electrical checks a couple of weeks ago. if you've got a good friend, try swapping pumps maybe.

SE-Ridiculous 03-19-2002, 09:40 AM I'll keep every one posted. oh and does any one know a mech...book thats helpfull in sr20 like/chilton,tptech,etc..
gsr20det 03-19-2002, 10:14 AM Get a factory service manual.
Tom
SE-Ridiculous 03-19-2002, 10:22 AM have it but it doesn,t help to locate all parts..

no checked car fax!!clean title too!as for the right distibutor maybe some NICE sr20 person could send me a pic of ther distributor PLEASE:D
gsr20det 03-19-2002, 10:48 AM How about a part number instead? This is located on the top of the distributor above the plug, pointing straight up at the hood. The number is 22100-53J02R. I believe this is for a 1991-1994 Sentra SE-R. It might be for only through a 1993. I'm not sure if another distributor would work on our car (if any).
A factory service manual would be your best friend in this situation, as it has a whole trouble shooting section. Call Mossey Nissan in National City CA to get the best price.

MaddMatt 03-19-2002, 10:58 AM I vote for a clogged cat as well.
