: Head and 300ZX piston questions *pics*
98Sr20de(t) 03-13-2006, 01:51 PM I am trying to figure out what head i just received. I looked on the head code list and did not see it. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y171/WakeboarderX30/P1010042.jpg
Also from the pictures that i have seen Z32 turbo pistons had a dish and were not flat top. What piston's are these than?

420sxDET 03-13-2006, 03:38 PM I don't know exactly, but since the euro sr20de pistons are flat top, these gotta b either sr20det pistons or sr20de pistons, depends on how big the dish is
98Sr20de(t) 03-13-2006, 03:46 PM The dish is really small. So these are not Z32 pistons than?
420sxDET 03-13-2006, 03:50 PM I guess u are trying to see if u have z32 TT low comp pistons. The z32 NA ones wold have a dome. I don't know. What makes you ask? Why dont u think it is not a stock piston? That is a standard head, no?
98Sr20de(t) 03-13-2006, 03:52 PM Cause it's supossed to be GTiR Rods w/ Z32 Turbo pistons and the bluebird head.
brian 03-13-2006, 05:55 PM measure the bore, that should tell you right there...
HkSBlueBird4u 03-13-2006, 05:58 PM suppose to be..... aww man.
FastNX 03-13-2006, 06:03 PM That looks like a SR20DE piston.
Here is a thread that shows 300ZX pistons
http://www.sr20forum.com/showthread.php?t=143224
If it's 86mm, its stock DE, it it's 87mm, it's been overbored.
NissanSti200 03-13-2006, 06:09 PM nope, thats normal Sr20 pistons,, most of import motors have those,,
98Sr20de(t) 03-13-2006, 11:42 PM Well what should i use to measure?
HJBarker 03-14-2006, 12:44 AM *sigh* I hate it for you dude, but you got served.
Yep, served a big steaming plate of bullshit. I bet your rods are stock too, fwiw. You can measure with a tape measure, actually - the widest you can manage to measure should be 86mm for stock, and 87mm for Z32 pistons.

98Sr20de(t) 03-14-2006, 06:23 AM well i measured and i knew it would be off a little but i came up with like 85.738 or something. so guess it's 86mm.
soiledxdesire 03-14-2006, 10:33 AM ok im the one who sold james the motor...i bought it off of silverballspecv about 2 years ago and never took the head off ( my fault...i was going to put it in my sentra but bought a VW instead ) when i bought the motor this is what i was told from the person who built it ( travis buell sp? aka unlucky aka from FIR )
Hey..
It's a DE block.. with a DET head. It's got 300zxTT pistons.. which make it 9.1:1 C/R. It's got S3 camshafts, new springs, new rod and main bearings, new rings, new seals, new timing chain. It's been hot tanked and I had it blueprinted when it was assembled.
Travis
now i need to know 100% that this is not what i was sold...i will in turn contact travis and try to figure this out...im not trying to rip anyone off here and i def want to get the situation rectified! james i messaged you back on myspace so lets get things figured out!

soiledxdesire 03-14-2006, 10:37 AM also did it have the cams that it was supposed to?

I'm not trying to blame you man. I know that you got it from someone and didn't take it apart. No hard feelings or anything there. Just kind of was confussed when i took off the head and the pistons looked the same as the old DE block i took apart. Also i cannot verify the head. It's not on any of the head lists on the forum. Not trying to give you a bad name or anything man just wanted to find out. I know your a good guy and didn't try to screw me over.

Looking through my Avenir W11 install pictures, I found this... not sure if yours states 53J in the same spot or not.

98Sr20de(t) 03-14-2006, 01:23 PM Mine is behind the thermostat housing. More under the distributer. And it says 53J 6R

My 91 se-r stock motor has 53J and 82 in the same place as yours...
cortrim1 03-14-2006, 02:24 PM you can verify the head by the exhaust valves. sodium valves have a 7mm stem and are marked on the valve face.
