I got my s3 installed today and they were terrible the idle was at like 300rpm it was sooooo lopey I thought they were a harsher grind but no on the box it said 260deg. We went thru the car trying to figure out the idle problem with a timing check that was fluctuating from like 20 degrees or some shit and then we check if there was any spark going to #4 cylinder the spark was there and the air and the injector had juice so it wasnt that we finally decided to put the stock ones in just to see if it was just the S3s that were causing it and low and behold after resetting the ecu and putting the stock ones in it idled fine and sounded fine without the motor hoping up and down. I called wolf and he said my shims are to high because its a 99 head????

After you put the S3's in, you said the timing was jumping around. Did you ever get the car into timing mode (constant timing)? The idle can suck if the timing is way off.

No we didnt I should check the timing again I was told that that idle was very irregular I figured that once I get my 95-96 ecu from wolf with s3 program it would fix that horrid idle but they said it wouldnt make that much a difference. Fuck it. Wolf is trying to find some s3s with a smaller base circle or something but in the mean time I just got my PR CAI installed it didnt add as much power as I was hoping Im thinking the ecu has to adjust itself to it however I did see a nice SOTP feel when I downshifted

Huh... that's weird... when I installed my S3's with the stock ECU, the idle only fluctuated from like 800-850. Hell, unless you looked at the tack, you couldn't even tell the idle was fluctuating. I'd have friends in the car and they'd be like, "you really have cams in here?".

You might want to consider checking to see if you skipped a tooth with the chain or something.

OK Jim Wolf took my old S3s and gave some with a smaller base circle and we installed it with the wolf ecu w/s3/s4 program and it WORKS its awesome The car HAULS ASS now feels stronger than ever the check engine light came on but I guess thats normal when you transfer a 95-96 ecu in a 99SE-L
