they are both 14mm bolts. one is under the thottle body and the other is on the top edge of the transmission in about the center.

can you see from the pix i attached? i searched and searched and everybody seems to be saying the same thing, but man, there's a bunch of 14mm bolts there.
i saw two 14mm under the throttle body right behind the coolant line. is it the left or the right?
i'm not sure where the tranny part is.

^^that is the bolt on the left. the other bolt will be under the throttle body.
for the other bolt: stand over the engine bay and hold the starter in your hand how it will be when its bolted on your motor (look at your pics for how it looks mounted). look at the bracket on the starter and you can see how far over and down the other bolt will be. since the bracket is flat the other bolt will not be any deeper inside or farther outside the motor and is facing the same direction. i hope this helps. the bolt is there man, i know its a pain in the ass to see but you will find it.
EDIT: forgot to say that both bolts are on the transmission.

.....your going to have to install from the bottom and 'bear-hug' the trans and crossmember to line up the threads....there's about 1.5" if thread to deal with....
......good luck __Jason

thanks...
one more question, aside from the oem part, i read the mitsubishi or hitachi brands are ok to use. do they sell them at auto parts store or from the nissan dealer.

you can get rebuilt ones from just about any auto parts store like, autozone, kragen, or from alternator and starter rebuild shops.
get the mitsubishi starter, its better than the hitachi.

You can also get the bushings and brushes and rebuild your own for a LOT less, but it is such a pita to get it in and out if you have the bux, buy the rebuild, and Classic is right, the mitsu is stronger. The bolts you get at by snaking a size 5-year old hands up from underneath to above and below the starter. Japanese engineers are smaller than most Americans of European descent - - - -
