: SR drama, out of ideas!!!!!!!
200sx SE-aRmed 03-19-2006, 09:41 PM Alright guys, i had the car running perfect, then i installed the new intercooler and it idled rough and wouldnt rev. I managed to to fix those problems after hours of tinkering. Now i have a bigger problem, every time i rev the car while sitting in neutrel and let off the throttle it almost turns off. The revs drop to about 400 briefly and then it rises again to normal idle. When im driving and rev it, let off and apply brakes the car does almost exactly the same but it actually turns off. Ive been working at it for two days straight and i cant figure it out, im tired and exhausted, so if any one has had this problem and can point me in the right direction i would appreciate it alot. Thanks for all the help getting my car running but i need you guys one more time!
myprojectB13 03-19-2006, 10:08 PM Pressure test.
Rittmeister 03-19-2006, 10:29 PM Sounds like a boost/vacuum leak. My car did exactly this when the recirculating hose came off the BOV at one point.
200sx SE-aRmed 03-19-2006, 10:39 PM Yeah the BOV was the first suspect since im running open, but i tightened the spring all the way and it still didnt change. I cant find any other leaks. Im thinking maybe the maf but it was working perfect until yesterday. I didnt want to buy a gauge to pressure test but i guess that will be my next step. Thanks for the help, im so depressed because im supposed to go to my first local meet soon but it dosnt look like im gonna make it!
200sx SE-aRmed 03-23-2006, 11:13 PM Well after i tightened the BOV all the way as far it could possibly go, it fixed the stalling problem almost completely. The idleing problem was do to fouled plugs, which i should have checked in the first place. I didnt because they where brand new and had less than 2 miles of use. This leads to my new problem. I bought new plugs and it ran and idled perfectly, so i took it for a quick spin and then it started sputtering after boosting briefly. Limped it home pulled the plugs and they where fouled completely again. Im not running an o2 sensor yet because i cant find one to fit my a/m downpipe so i know this is one reason its running rich, but i didnt think it would foul the plugs so quickly? Im thinking another cause may be because im using a walboro 255lph pump with the stock fpr, and theres too much fuel pressure forcing excessive fuel to be injected. What do you guys think, can the 02 sensor be the only cause or does the Walboro have somthing to do with it also? Thanks for all the feed back from before!
Rittmeister 03-23-2006, 11:28 PM If you're not running an O2 sensor, that's pretty much the whole problem. Walbro with stock FPR will run slightly higher than stock fuel pressure, so that exacerbates the issue.
Solution - O2 sensor first, adjustable FPR when you're ready (I'm not using one yet and I have no stalling issues at this point, and I've got the Walbro).
Hope that helps.
Nismo1182 03-24-2006, 02:09 AM Got an SAFC2 or tuned ecu to compensate for the BOV venting to atmosphere?
If it sputters when its boosting then you have a vacumm leak somewhere.
What does your boost gauge read when the car is idling?
O2 sensor makes a diffrence when cruising around, at WOT it doesnt do anything. Ive ran with unplugged O2's before and all I got was shitty gas mileage. Other than that the car ran perfect. Recheck your intercooler pipes vacumm lines. Pressure test if you can. Try a diffrent MAF too.

No SAFC2 or tuned ecu but im getting one soon, and the sputter dosnt occur during boost, what i meant was after i ran it down the block and boosted it briefly, turned the corner and went to apply throttle again, the car would sputter bad and wouldnt rev past 2200rpm. When i changed the plugs ran it perfect again for one or two runs then the sputtering began again, so i checked the plugs and they where fouled badly! I also found fuel in the oil yesterday so im getting pretty bad wash. Thats why i was thinking it wasnt just the o2 sensor. Compresion is still good so i hope i didnt damage my engine. Thanks for all the help again and if i fix the problem ill let you know!:biggthump
SoSideways 03-24-2006, 10:53 AM Check your fuel injector o-rings first, they might be torn and leaking fuel everywhere.
I've had problems with my o-rings ripping on me like 3 times, and usually the car will drive fine, and then idle rough, and I wouldn't think anything of it. Until the o-ring completely lets go, then you're down 1 or more cylinders.
Just pull the fuel rail with everything still plugged in and attached, then have someone go into the car and turn the key to the "on" position while you hold the fuel rail up and away from the intake mani to see if there's any leaking. Even 1 or 2 drops of fuel leaking out is not acceptable. If you see leakage, replace the o-rings on those injectors, making sure you use some oil on the o-ring as you use your hand to pop the injectors into the rail for a complete seal without ripping the o-ring as you install it.
PS - I am running a Walbro 255 lph fuel pump, and I installed a FP gauge to monitor my fuel pressure, and it's at around 44 psi with the vacuum hose unplugged at idle. After driving around awhile and boosting here and there I'll notice that I get a crappy/rough idle, and I'll go to check my FP and it'll be down at around 32 to 33 psi with the vacuum hose on the FPR. Dunno what the problem is really...
200sx SE-aRmed 03-24-2006, 11:03 AM cool thanks ill try that, good luck with your problem, i would like to help you but you probably know ten times more than me!
