: I think I just got PWN3D!
Flounder 03-24-2006, 12:52 AM My car is still running crappy. Hesitation, surging, horrible A/F ratios. I have 134,400 on the clock, and the CEL is on for the second time in a month. Last time, the scanner said O2, and I haven't checked it yet this time, but I'm sure that it will read the same. It's the front O2, BTW. Figuring that mine has probably never even been changed, I checked some numbers, and ordered one. It's BOSCH #13039 according to the websites. I ordered it from my friend, who happens to be an assisstant manager for CSK. He got it for me at wholesale, and said it would be in today. I stopped back in today, and he said the parts delivery guy hadn't been in yet. So I waited a few minutes and mingled, and the parts guy showed up. He gave me the box and I opened it...and I didn't like what I saw. The O2 in the BOSCH box, looks nothing like any BOSCH O2 I've ever seen before, and says "made in Japan" on it. In short, I think somebody somewhere pulled a fast one and put some eBay O2 in the box. Here's some pics to go along with.
A "normal" BOSCH O2.

You tell me...did I get owned or not?
Johnny wangwang 03-24-2006, 12:59 AM Mine looked like the one in the picture on the bosch box that you took a picture of with three wires and a conector. Maybe your is the "premium" one. Does it have the OEM nissan symbol on it without the letters"
Nismo_Freak 03-24-2006, 01:02 AM I have that same Bosch O2, my car runs fine and gets 24 - 30 MPG.
Flounder 03-24-2006, 01:13 AM it has no nissan symbol on it, nor does it say BOSCH, nor does it have any recognizable part numbers. The one that's in my car now (stock one) says BOSCH on it, and has the little nissan logo. Like I said before, every BOSCH sensor I've ever seen before, has atleast had their name on it, and as far as I know (and thier website shows) there are only TWO variations of sensors they make. Thimble, and Planar, and neither look anything like this. The only other ones I've seen that have the little holes in the tip, are NGK/NTK.
EDIT: If you read this, and have any insight, please post. If I can get a definate answer, it will save me a bigger hassle.
Cujo_se-r 03-24-2006, 04:01 AM Mine has holes in the tip also, but I am not sure if it says bosch on it or not. Did you install it yet? Does it not work or something? I wouldn't worry about it if the sensor is in working condition.
Jaketips42 03-24-2006, 06:54 AM Kinda looks like a denso, but... I just find it strange something that usually comes from Germany, came from Japan. Bring it back and give em hell!
BORNGEARHEAD 03-24-2006, 08:17 AM Ross, you should have let me know. I have like 3-4 good 02 sensors laying around.
XxToKeSxX 03-24-2006, 09:03 AM Ross, you should have let me know. I have like 3-4 good 02 sensors laying around.

and there you have it... It is not a Bosch as Bosch is a German company and most likely would not be made in Japan...
ClandestineName 03-24-2006, 09:33 AM I replaced my O2 sensor last year, and it looks like the one in question (the one in your possession). Mine came from Autozone.
nissanboi 03-24-2006, 10:56 AM ive been selling bosch o2s for 4 yrs at an auto parts store never seen one like that
ive seen some people put the oem ones in the box and try to return them
also bosh ALWAYS puts anti seize on the threads so us retaillers can tell if someone installed it (its a silverish color) not the normal brown
**** say that isnt a bosch
XxToKeSxX 03-24-2006, 11:05 AM I would definetely do something about that... talk to your friend, hopefully he doesn't get in trouble.
pwr2max 03-24-2006, 11:06 AM mine also looks the one you pulled out of the box and it runs fine...been in there for almost a 1000 miles now.
HkSBlueBird4u 03-24-2006, 11:30 AM im gonna say that is a bosch.. an old school bosch an when lookin up something on an auto parts computer the listing gives u 3 se-r's usdm ser,jdm se-r (which there never was),nx
i say its a bosch for the sole fact that some back in the day didnt say bosch on it..
Coheed 03-24-2006, 12:00 PM WHOA! wait up a second! That really is a Bosch. I bought one for my 2 cars recently and it looks just like that. NO WORRIES because once i changed it to the one in the pics I got 32 mpg out of the SE-R, more than a 5mpg increase. It made the idle smoother and the car ran like a champ!
Flounder 03-24-2006, 01:37 PM I just confirmed the answer for sure... It really is a BOSCH. I went to a local import-only parts warehouse, and asked to see one of theirs. He pulled it out of the box, and it was identical to mine. No more worries, I hope to install it, along with my SSAC this weekend. :biggthump
thanks for the help everybody.
Bjorn 03-24-2006, 04:21 PM another confirmation: I just bought the a 13039 from NAPA today and it looks exactly like that - includes white zip-tie, copper antisieze and 2 slips of paper
Josht34237 03-24-2006, 04:51 PM bosch just like everyone else is outscourcing
Flounder 03-25-2006, 11:57 PM Yea, at first I was pretty mad that it's not a real Bosch (it's actually a Denso), but if it's good enough for Bosch to sell under their name, then it's good enough for me.
