Well at least you're kind enough to give us the option, so here's my opinion ;):

I'm not too big a fan of red with Sapphire Blue. I like the idea of the gloss black, and I'd go with a Sapphire valve cover if you could. I like to keep things toned down and matching; most people don't agree with me. :)

^^After talking to my powdercaot guy today I think I will stick with the gloss black for the valve cover too. Keep it more uniform. The only colors I will have in the engine bay are Saphirre blue, some chrome, and gloss black. I think that will look good.

Any other suggestions or thoughts from members?

I dont think the red would look good. I think a dark metallic grey...

I am officially a powdercoat freak. I advise against gloss black, I currently have a gloss black VC and it sucks to keep clean, not only that even with a powder clear it still gets swirl marks. I have never once cleaned the VC when the car was even lke warm, and it still gets minor swirl marks. Find another flat finish that you really like and roll with that.

Is the problems due to the gloss or the black? If I had a dark gloss grey do you think that would do the same? While I don't want it to be blinged out I would like a little shine. :(

Sounds like it wasn't fully cured.

I am 100% sure it was fully cured. I have have a MILLION things coated in many different colors. The coater is VERY GOOD. He has a 20 x 20 400 degree oven. So not only was it baked properly it sat for over two months before it was installed.

I believe it is an issue with black. I have red powdercoated calipers that were cleared and they look lke the day I had them coated.

I would do something crazy/silly like a hot/pepto pink or a sapphire blue urban digital camo VC.

I think the blue and pink will have a nice contrast and it's outside the box of the usual red, black, blue, yellow VCs.

Here is the urban digital (just replace a color with blue):

It could of been a batch of powder that wasn't up to par. Or a substandard black/clear he used.

I'm still thinking it wasn't baked/cured as it should of been. I'd find it hard to belive he would heat up an oven of that size(2400 cubic feet min) for something that small. His electric/gas bill(for warm up/outgassing/baking) would be more than what he charged you to do it. Sounds like he is more of a commercial/industrial powdercoater.

Letting it sit does nothing for curing(paint is different), once a powdercoated object cools down, it is ready to be put in service because it will not cure with time.

I know all of this because I own a powdercoating/ceramic coating business.

Well he has a few different size ovens. He does a ton of sprint car chassis and other large items. I have MANy different powdercoated items and none of them have ever shown a sign of swirl marks or anything of the sort. All of them he coated.

Cool, probably a bad batch of powder then, it does happen every once in awhile.

I can't deny that's a possibility. That's why I got another VC powdercoated wrinkle black. It loooks killer and hides all!
