I know that they say you can gain a good 5hp by simply advancing or retarding the timing a little, but setting the timing is a little tricky. What is the correct procedure, and what do you set it to? Thanks in advance.

I dont know about 5 hp, I know people who have lost HP by advancing there timing, but this is how to do it: http://www.se-r.net/engine/about_timing.html

I don't know why I didn't think of that... I go there all the time. Thanks.

And the only real way to know if you're making 5 more hp is if you adjust your timing on a dyno. What looks like 17 degrees BTDC to you might look like 15 or 19 to someone else. The first time I had my car on the dyno I found I made the most power at something less than 15 degrees BTDC. Between my final run and my base run I gained 5hp... well worth the $175-200 I spent for the dyno time (approx 10 runs).

I found a nice gain by advancing my timing per SE-R.NET

Thanks for the info...

BTW, what are the specs on a JDM SR20DE? Where can you get one?

I just priced a JDM SR20DE shipped to my door, $625. www.kwcengine.com. I think I might buy one from SR20DEvelopment just to support their cause.. plus they aren't much more at all.

I too adjusted my timing to the way se-r.net describes and i felt a decent increase throughout the powerband.

What was your original timing set at?
Mine was somewhere around 10 degrees before TDC.
I can see someone not getting much out of advancing the timing if it was set above 13 degrees before they done it.

And what might their cause be? Too charge an outragous price for a product with crappy craftsmanship/quality, or a tranny with 5th gear pop out ;)
