With so many shops back logged with machine work, specifically those who prepare SR20 blocks, I couldn't wait anymore. I commissioned a CNC shop to actually make one from an extra head gasket. They machined the bottom flat to mate against the block. Here's the picture.

Damn, Rob! I had no idea you were heading this way. This opens up a ton of possibilities for me in the future, as well as all SR20DE Forum members!
What's next? Custom tube-frame chassis? Don't go getting any ideas.
Looks great. I'm sure you will get some use out of this very soon. I think Ben has a couple blocks that could benefit from it..... ?

If you dont mind me asking.. What did it cost you. I need one for my 2.0 that is coming in that I cant find a plate for.
Thanks

Hopefully in two weeks, I'll get my built short block back and install my P&P head with either C3's or S4's, drop her in and take my car to the next level.

Ok looks good, but what is it used for lower compreshion? Replaces head gasket? thanks..

A torque plate is used to simulate the head being bolted to the block when boring out the cylinder. It simulates the torque of the head bolts pulling on the block.

A torque plate is used for the honing process. It's not used for boring.

Nope, it's used for boring. Honing doesn't stress a block; boring does.

I always thought that a torque plate was used for the honing process ensuring that you get a perfect cylindrical shape. I guess I'm wrong.

Honing is when you put the cross-hatch pattern into the cylinder; if any material is removed, it's very little. Boring is when you enlarge the cylinder (remove material); when you're doing this, you do want to ensure you get a uniform cut and that's when the torque plate comes into play (it simulates the head being bolted to the block which puts the cylinders into the shape they would normally be with the engine assembled).

Here you go, only takes about $450.00 and you can own your very own.

That sucks, didn't know torque plates were that expensive :( I wonder how I would go about getting one since sending a block to the states is no practical

I would think you could get one from a company that has had one for the sr20 before or something no, talk about back from the dead, ha

yeah. If you know anyone who does CNC machine send thm a headgasket. Otherwise talk to Yahnoza on the forum i know he does.
