This is response to this thread:

Me and Serban are trading shots about it, so I figured I'd post a poll to get a general consensus.

I stand by the 93! :)

I voted '91, but it's honestly a tossup between the '91-'93 highport cars. Here's my reasoning:

1. '91s have the good seats, grille, and taillights. All subjective of course

2. '91s have nice glass headlights

3. '91s have no cruise (manly and stuff :).

4. No fruity colors on '91s (just good old white, black and red like a sports car should be).

5. '91s are more plentiful (easy to find) and usually cheaper than any other year

6. I actually like the '91 bumper better from any angle other than head-on. The '93-'94 looks like a frickin cow-catcher from the side with no skirts to match it. Paint the rocker panels and bumper bottoms body color and a '91 looks much better to me than a '93-'94 - the front is more cohesive with the rest of the car.

There are advantages to all years though. '92s are a bit newer and usually lower miles, and some people like cruise. And most like the '93-4 bumper. The grille is ugly though, very un-sporty looking. Andy92rubyclassic has a '92 with original grill and '93 bumper and that combo looks much better than a '93 IMO.

the perfect se-r would be a '93 se-r with '91 everything. or, a '91 with a '93 bumper. since they didn't make that, i'll stick by '92. :D

I say 94 cause it's that wonderful low port!

Yuk! Just gotta love how the air in the engine has to make a 90 degree bend with the low-ports.

I'd take any of the '91-'93 cars all else equal, but I'd choose the '92 every time.

You get everything that's right with the '91 plus cruise control. The taillights, seat fabrics, gauges, and grey rocker panels are all tops. YMMV.

When I was looking for Classics four years ago, I was willing to take the first one I found, but a '92 was first pick. An example showed up in Aztec Red one day, and I arranged for a drive that evening. An easy sell for the owner.

92 ALL THE WAY

I had a 91, now I have a 92.

94's are automatically out because of the head.

My 92 has cruise control, and all you *manly* guys who say 91's are better because they didn't have cruise available can kiss my ass. How many of you are running around without AC, radio, or heater. It's a street car 'fer chrissake.

Anyone who thinks the 93/94 fabric is better needs to have their head checked. The 91/92 material is very rugged, and wears like iron. The 93/94 feels like it sticks to your body, and is much less sporty.

The grey rocker panels are a nice touch on the 91/92

I *thought* I liked the later taillights better, but I bought a set and decided not to install them. I like mine better.

92's don't have 5th gear popout as much as the 91's.

Oh, yeah the speedo reads in 10mph increments, although some people (Stormy) find that confusing. Maybe he'd like it better if were in 30 or 40mph increments, or how about a completely blank speedo with a big red dot at 55.

I like them all, which is a moot point, because they were never sold in Canada.

It's even illegal to import one, according to Transport Canada. I know someone who bought one in the States, brought it back, and was forced to return it to the States and sell it again.

The problem? The door-mounted seatbelts. Yes, the NX2000 and the Sentra E GXE, etc. of the same years were sold in Canada. Yes, the mounting points for the belts exist on the the bpillars, but no matter.

They're contraband...

Yet another reason for the US to invade and liberate our Canadian brothers of the oppressive tyranny they must exist with day to day!

:p You know I'm kidding Eh? You guys are the best neighbors ever!

I liked my 91 but looking at it objectively, 93 are just a bit better.

The people have spoken...91s and 92s are better. I have the best of both worlds, cruise control and a 94 bumper on mine :D

I would have to agree with some people, the 92 is better than the 91, just because it comes with cruise control, other than that, everything else is the same.

I dunno, the 91-92 speedo just has too many numbers on it. Not that it's confusing, but it looks unneccasarily cluttered. I'm sure theres a reason why Nissan, AFAIK, has produced most cars with 20mph increments on their speedometers since back then.

I still like the 93-94 fabric better. So I guess I should have my head examined then? :)

'93 is the best year, IMO. Maybe I'm biased a little. ;)

My personal opinion:

'91:
Positives: High-port
Negatives: Lack of cruise control; front bumper; taillights; speedo/tach

'92:
Positives: High-port; cruise control
Negatives: Front bumper; taillights; speedo/tach

'93:
Positives: High-port; cruise control; upgraded front bumper, taillights, and speedo/tach
Negatives: None

'94:
Positives: Cruise control; upgraded front bumper, taillights, and speedo/tach
Negatives: Low-port

Also, it seems by 1993 that most of the 5th gear pop out problems were resolved. 90,000 miles and counting and I've never had the 5th gear pop out. However, I'm sure some '91 and '92 owners have never experienced 5th gear pop out either.

Was ABS available on the '91 and '92 models? Just curious.

My '93 has ABS, cruise control, a moonroof, and a driver's side airbag.

With that having been said, still every single Classic SE-R is an amazing car. Everyone has their own opinion on what makes their classic special. :D

93 looks better: still is high port, has nice feeling seats--91/92 feels spartan, overall better interior, tach near the center where its supposed to be (line of sight), we have cruise, ac, etc...

and my car never popped gear.. cant complain :D
