I was searching the SE-R list for solutions to my squeaking clutch problem. It turns out I'm not the only one who has the problem, so I was wondering if anyone has a solution to this. I have a relatively new clutch cable and new clutch. When it starts to get warm out my clutch/cable makes a squeaking sound as I depress the pedal (honest to god, it sounds EXACTLY like a flock of geese is flying over). About an inch or two away from the pedal being pushed all the way down you can feel a notchy-like grind in the pedal. Yesterday, I went under the car and the sound is coming from a little ways back from the adjustment screw for the clutch cable. It feels like there is a rubber piece that the cable goes into. The squeak is coming from that area it seems. I blindly sprayed a bunch of silcone spray in that area on a prayer that the noise would go away. It did for a little while, but today it came back briefly, and then disappeared again. It is really cold out today though, so the noise doesn't normally occur when it's cold out anyway. The clutch is normally very smooth and quiet when its cold out. Any ideas on how to correct this problem? Thanks a lot.

dude, I have the same exact problem as you do, my clutch cable is fairly new and i have the same squeak in the same area you do. I would love to know what is the cause and what solution there is to make it stop and be completely smooth. Thanks in advance.

Try using WD40. Other than that I don't think theres much you can do besides changing your clutch cable again and being lucky. Gremlins come and gremlins go in all cars.

When my SE-R was being driven daily, I went through the infamous clutch squeak. One thing I noticed was this: The squeaking wasn't really determined by the temperature so much as it was determined by the relative humidity. Moisture.
Other than that, I have no explanation of how to make it go away.

When it's humid (summer), it squeaked like crazy.

When it's dry (winter) it doesn't.

Yeah, my clutch squeaks quite a bit too, pretty much only after initially putting the pedal down, i found that repeated pumps after the first are squeak free, and yes, this pretty much only happens when its hot and humid out, as opposed to the winter weather.

think the correct search words are "clutch gritch" or something like that. id lube up the piviot point on the clutch peddal and then lube up the throwout bearing like eric said.

i've had the noise on my 1998 since 1999. i know what all you guys are going through =)

here's what i've found so far. WD40 does not work. it'll clean up the lithium grease used on the clutch assembly under the dash.

i'm not 100% certain, but i'm close to there..... the noise comes from the bushing/rubber where the fulcrum pin slides into. that rubber is suppose to be lubed with lith. grease. it's the lack of grease that's making that noise as you apply pressure to it, making the pin rub against the dry rubber.

it's a PITA just to take the whole clutch pedal assembly apart to grease that one pin. before you start taking things apart, see if that's where your noise comes from.

i haven't fixed mine yet. i'll do it when i replace my clutch in 2 months.

by the way, all you guys with this noise, do youuse the heater often in the winter? and you let the heat exit out the vents under the dash? i'm wondering if that'd contribute to the noise build up.

My clutch squeak had been completely gone up until this thread popped back up recently, lol. I think my car somehow knows what is happening on this forum. The squeaking/roughness is back full force once again. :(

I've had enough of it. When I change my motor mount next weekend, I AM going to fix this damn clutch too.

mine turned out to be the drivers side motor mount bolt being loose...i guess the mechanic forgot to tighten it back down....!!

My car has the same problem too. I think that the squeak is coming from that lever thingy attached to the cluthch cable. I'm sure its the lever, because I saw that it has some rust on it, most of it right where its nut is on the tranny housing. I'm going to spray some WD40 and see how that goes.
