i read in another forum that the 01 se's had a hydraulic transmission. is that the same with the 00's? why would they change it in its second year?

What's a hydraulic transmissions? Automatic?
Or do you mean clutch?

AFAIK, yes the 01's have the hydraulic clutch. this excerpt is taken from an Auto World 2000 article:

A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on all models, except the Sentra CA. Clutch activation has been improved through use of hydraulic control (instead of cable) and more than 25 modifications have been made - including use of first and second gear double-cone synchronizers - for smoother, stronger performance. A viscous limited-slip differential is available with SE models equipped with manual transmissions and the optional Performance Package.

yep. that's the year it was referring to in the article (thus the auto world 2000, ;) )
