: Question About Suspension Tie Rods Thingies...
Ares240SX 03-30-2006, 03:24 PM While doing my brake job yesterday something I noticied while there was a rod. It connects to the lower control arm with two bolts and has a bushing on the end of it. Well that bushing is toasted. Is there a poly kit avaliable? Or a replacement bushing, or do I need to replace the rod? Thanks!
98sr20ve 03-30-2006, 05:53 PM Are you talking about he Tension Control Rod that goes from the outside of the lower control arm towards the front of the car?
Ares240SX 03-30-2006, 06:43 PM Yea I believe that is the one.
Rittmeister 03-30-2006, 06:54 PM You can get poly bushings. The install requires a press. There are instances of poly bushings causing broken tension rods and broken control arms, but there don't seem to be that many.
You can also get aftermarket replacement rods, that have a spherical bearing instead of the big bushing. I just put some on my car a few months ago. Do a search, you'll find a bunch of stuff.

Found your thread. How do you like your new tension rods?

I can answer that. They're amazing! I own a solid set too. :)
Rittmeister 03-30-2006, 08:04 PM Harris, which ones did you go with?
Turbo711 03-30-2006, 08:54 PM SPL makes great ones!
98sr20ve 03-30-2006, 10:19 PM I bought the EBAY ones and replaced the crappy bearings with quality bearings. Unless you spend over $200 you get really crappy bearings.

SPL from what I know. I bought them from a friend, and IIRC, he told me they were SPL units. Steering response is great with these babies, way better than the stockers. Ofcourse, I installed a lot of other stuff when I installed the tension rods, but steering response was not one of the end results of the other things I put in the car (the struts/springs, STBs, the wheels/tires).
Ares240SX 03-31-2006, 02:07 AM I was looking at the Nismo replacements. Anyone have a link for the SPL ones? I also found Top Speed, Kansai Service Pillow Tension Rods, Tanabe Front Tension Rod, and Kazama Auto Pillow Tension.
Witt19 03-31-2006, 02:59 AM tension contorl rods are def an awesome upgrade. next on my list is control arm bushings and new tie rods.
Rittmeister 03-31-2006, 07:35 AM The Nismo units are barely better than stock. They just have a stiffer bushing, they're NOT spherical-bearing units.
Harris 03-31-2006, 08:05 AM Go to http://www.splparts.com to see the site correctly and order the rods.
Here's what the page under silvia 89-94 240sx --> Suspension --> Front Multi-link will look like:

SoSideways 03-31-2006, 11:03 AM +1 for SPL rods.
Not to mention Kuah and the gang over at SPL are like kings of customer service. Definitely a + for a business that already sells good products at a very good price.
98sr20ve 03-31-2006, 03:08 PM I just remembered, I have the TEIN TC Rods. They come with the rubber boot to protect the bearing from the elements. I highly recommend them.
