basically what happened was, we got 2 filters from my nissan dealership. one bax was opened , we went on with it, we used that one. when we started it all hell broke loose and the filter flew off and i lost all my oil!!! we tried to put it back on.so my dad went in to get more mobil 1 and then he got back, and an idea poped in our head. we opened the other box, and whadda ya know, A DIFFERENT FILTER!!!. this one was longer, more threads, and had a convex shape. so we take the other one and compare it to the new one. TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT FILTERS!! we put our new one on, and put basically another 3 quarts back in, and start it up. runs great. now what the hell is this? i even got this from a nissan dealership. we had to order it because they dont carry them in stock since were the rarer nissans. im thankful i didnt damage the engine. but i shure did get oil all over on that side where the filter is. and all over my garage. its like lake mobil in my garage. but we put oil dry on it etc..
one thing my dad has to say about it is that our car have a HELL OF AN OIL PUMP!! HA! my cars happy now. full synthetic. and i think i got rid of any such sort of the missing oil syndrome!! my cars gotta be full synthetic!! no sludge probly because it all went out!! ha! now i have a reason to call my car an evil egg..
im gonna make my dad call the dealership and see why the hell we got two different filters. i know it was my own fault in a way to not check both but we shoudlnt need to since its from the cars manufacturer itself. both the boxes were the same too, part # matching on boxes, somebody just put a different filter in the box!!

This is a very common problem with Nissan dealers. The 1991-1993 filters are different than the 1994+ filters. The earlier filters were larger than the later ones and they have different threads. I have heard of several people having the filter pop off because they were given the wrong filter by the dealer.

The 1991-1993 filter part number should end in 53J00.
