SR20 Soon?

I just picked up my b13 this past weekend and the person i got it from said their son accidentally shifted from 5th to 2nd and fucked up the crank bearing. So i tow it back to my house and my brother who owns a 420a dsm and has had rod knock more then a few times said it sounds like a rod knock and i need to replace the rod bearings. If the rod bearings are still in place and are not damaged, is there another possibility for the rod knock like noises? I searched already for rod knock and only found out how to check the bearings but not other possibilities for the noise.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Pop open the valve cover and look for thrown rocker arms. That could also be it. Hopefully thats all it is and is fixable.

Unfortunately i checked the rockers, they are fine :(. It was the first thing i checked as i was advised to check. Next on the list is the rod bearings the next dry day we have up here in cleveland.

I ended up paying 710 for the car, which made me happy cause it was within my 750 limit for a shell like nissan. Thing is clean as hell. I found 4 tiny less then 1 inch size spots on the entire car. I was amazed. According to the title its only been in PA for 11k miles, before that Florida. Overall i am very satisfied.

I got started on my quest for learning how to check/change rod bearings today. Went smooth, time consuming because i work slow, but I was satisfied. Still no confirmation on the problem with the knock, and based on peoples responses im guessing the possibilities are either Rockers, Rod Bearings, or Crank. My worst case scenario is i swap in another de for now, ohh well.

Thanks to this forum (i found the ebay link here) i am now a happy b13 owner. I owe my happiness to the SR20 forum. lol

I did, i was just listing possibilities of the noise, not ones i havent checked. My plans today were cancelled today, so i will probably drop that upper oil pan and check on those bearings.

Im hoping i can avoid a motor swap at the present time.

How about lifters, could it be lifter noise?

I havent ruled that out completely yet because i havent checked it, but the sound is coming from the lower portion of the motor. How do you check lifters? The only thing involving them i know is the lifter tap from my friends u13 that we had to fix by retarding/advancing his timing (im not sure which one gets rid of it.)

Im gettin ready to take off the downpipe so i can drop the upper oil pan, me= hoping its just a bearing and no damage to anything else.

Im not sure on how to check the lifters, I personally just go get them checked.
