I'm kinda scared to ask this, but i'm sure if it is a problem, it's not going to correct itself *sigh* anyway, when i reverse (out of a parking stall, for example) and I slow down/stop, right before I come to a complete stop i hear a clunk. I'm not exactly sure where it's coming from other than the passenger side of the car. I did put the hyperco/agx combo on (excellent) but this was doing it before I installed the susupension. I thought it could have been the suspension because i got the car with the oem setup (btw it's a 91 se-r, sorry). my only guess is that it's something to do when the car is shifting weight.

if anyone has any ideas as to what it could be (assuming it's not the suspension) *crosses fingers for not something major*

thanks to all for your time!

Check your CV axle?

*gasp* i'm hoping it isn't that. i don't suppose there's a way to check it other than looking for tears in the cv boot?

Motor/tranny mounts? Clunk upon reverse, or take off for me.

Ya I had a broken mount and was doing exactly that in reverse. It was the one at the back of the motor on the bottom connects to the engine just to the passenger side of where the tranny connects to the motor.

now that you mention it, i've heard it do it on take off too. shawn, just like your sig says--time for motor mount inserts?

congrats on the suspension (i remember seeing the pile of parts on your stairs being bigger :D )

Could be as simple as suspension bits not snug enough. For example, get underneath and re-torque the a-frame to frame bolts. Those will slip back and forth as you brake or accelerate from stop. DO NOT overtorque - have a friend who had a really interesting time fixing stripped thread inserts.

thanks...i think i'll check that today.

btw checking for busted motor mounts...will they just look deteriorated?

You may not be able to tell if the stock mounts are trashed until you get them out and start poking at them. BUT, look for the "thin" connector pieces inside the circle being broken, no pun intended. The 'front' fluid mount - passenger side - will sag as it deterioriates, but it's hard to notice unless you can compare it to a good one. I had a GREAT clunk with the DE before I put in the DE with JWT inserts; it was most likely the exhaust banging against something with the 'generous' movement of the motor on the shot stock mounts.

it's the control arm bolts and stuff like that. i have to do mine every 6 months or so. they'll start to clunk when they get loose

I thought it was just me^^^ I had the same problem since changing to ES bushings for the last two years, clunking and rubber band feel when accelerating. Added the Progress LCAB which comes with longer bolts and lock nuts solved the problem.

To really know what's wrong, I suggest to raise the front and check the whole front suspension. To include all bushings, mounts, axles, swaybar etc. Suspension work is fairly straight foward, so don't be put off. In most cases it's easier than messing with engine problems.
When something goes it will affect other parts like a chain reaction. The more you wait........
