well, guys, got about 99% done with my turbo install, only to find out the stock avenir turbo outlet pipe interferes with the center crossmember, no matter which way i turn the turbo, the outlet pipe interferes with the crossmember. anyone mounted this turbo with the outlet pipe? i will probably just make my own out of a flange that i will cut out of steel and some 1.5" mandrel pipe and have the end swaged out to 2.5"

any help would be appreciated!!

I'm right in the middle of doing the exact same thing, and had the exact same problem with my Avanir turbo. I have a spare crossmember, so I think that I am just going to make a custom motor mount with one of them. If yours is like my G20, that mount is not a weight-bearing mount, just one to prevent engine rocking, so it shouldn't be too bad to fab a mount

buy some snap ring pliers, and move the compressor outlet up, to clear the crossmember, thats what i did. all you have to do is compress the snap ring, and you can move the compressor housing to just about any position you want, just make sure you dont bind the wastegate actuator.

oh, make sure they are right angle ones that are pretty sturdy, i originally bought some cheap kragen ones, and they bent before i could even budge the snap ring. Snap-on is what i ended up using.

also, make sure to soak the snap ring in WD-40 or Marvel Mystery Oil, as this will make life MUCH easier.

Do you have to do this for B13s as well, or is this a B15 only thing? I've got an avenir det going in a B13.

this is on a B14, which has an identical motor mount setup as the B13. so yes, this will more than likely be necesary for you too.

Ah, ok. Thanks for the pointer.

What are you guys doing about the wastegate actuator/solenoid? If you rotate the compressor housing the bolt holes to mount it will be in a different position.

nah, i only rotated it like .5" to clear the motor mount, and made my own putlet pipe. the wastegate actuator is very close to the block, but is not touching. the rod that comes out of it does not bind on the bracket either.

remember, the wastegate position is different on the avenir turbo, this turbo already points down, it just points a little too far down in its stock position.

Wouldn't it be the same thing if you rotate the exhaust housing?

yeah, but then you run into downpipe elbow clearance problems. plus, rotating the commpressor housing is really easy, you just compress a snap ring, rotate, and release snap ring. easy as pie.

rotating the exhaust housing is a more complex problem, you have to actually remove bolts, and that entails work, something i am not ready to deal with, remember, water takes the path of least resistance, as do i.

hey HotshtSR20
did you rotate the housing up or down .5" and are you using the flange that came with your avenir, -to flare out to a larger diameter pipe for the outlet. if so what size are you flaring out to?
thanks lamar

i rotated it up .5" so that it would clear.

i used a 1.5" mandrel U bend. i then had a 1.5-2" metal pipe (found at any pep boys or kragen) welded on to the end of it 6" after the turbo. the 2" side connects to the rest of my I/C piping, which is 2"

Also, what IC do you have?

2" IC piping everywhere except right out of the turbo.

i have a forge motorsports intercooler with 2" inlet/outlet

Do you have any pics of where it was hitting the crossmember?

no, i dont, but it was hitting the crossmember halfway between the bend and where it bolts to the chassis.

I'm a francophone, so I don't understand some words. One of these is a snap ring. What is this tool? What does it look like?

To rotate the compressor housing, do I have to unscrew the four bolts we see on the housing? Can you tell me the exact procedure for rotating it, because I don't wanna mess my turbo.

I guess rotating it 0,5" won't break the oil line going in the block...

If this really work, I'll be the happiest guy in my garage, because I had problems with that since wednesday.

Thanks a lot!

Come on! I need an answer, I'm stuck on this problem, I can't do anything else until I know how to rotate it.
