I was f-ing around under the hood today. I was blipping the throttle and notice that whenever I gave it gas the lower power steering hose on the firewall would collapse until it returned to idle. Is it normal? I checked the fluid and the fluid was fine.

The same thing happened to me a year ago. Save your self a lot of stress and go buy a new one.

Bob, if it's the hose that snakes from the passenger side strut tower down the firewall....then good luck getting that ba$tard off there. I've been fighting with mine off and on for about 6 months. Nissan put a compression fitting about 1/2 way down the firewall, for no apparent reason. That fitting is the weak point.
I cannot get the fitting off at the strut tower. It is connected to an aluminum banjo fitting mount, and if you apply too much torque to it, the aluminum line will snap.
I hope you have better luck than I have had. Argh. :(

This is one of the few times I would consider taking it to the dealership first. If you bring an unmolested part in and ask them to replace it they should give you a cost and stand by that cost. If you bring in a part that has obviosly been marked up and worked on then they can charge whatever is fair to fix what they consider to be your mistake. Maybe poor SERprise In WV's greif can keep you from going down the same road. This is probably one of those things that only comes off if you know "just" how to do it.

This hose runs parallel to the ground on the firewall, if that helps any. I'm just curious if this is gonna lead to bigger problems down the road.
