Hi guys

Iv recently finished my swap, and today had a mate in the car and he said my BOV wasnt working, and the noise I was hearing was compressor surge..

So, I did what any like minded individual would do, any came on here for a good long search:tongue:

Its a Greddy type RS, Im only running 8psi on a gtir engine (I know, I know, ill turn it up eventually!:rolleyes: )

I found out what the adjuster does on the BOV, so loosened it all the way up ("soft" its labelled..) And for the first time, I actually heard my BOV!

But, I still get some compressor surge at low boost (2-5psi ish) And I "think" that since the BOV is set so soft, it "might" be opening mid-boost.. But im not too sure about that last scentence...

Is it normal to have a little bit of compressor surge, or should there be none at all?

After what iv read on here, there shouldnt be any as it kills the turbo....??

Also, the BOV has its own dedicated line as per this pic;

Thanks for any opinions!!

One thing i found with my type S BOV the springs with one or 2 in side it it dosnt like the gtir engine amount of vacuume it draws and i would asume its the same for your RS. Thats if you have it set for venting strait to atmosphere , but you should have to vented back in to the inlet of the turbo and set to start opening at 10 hg of vacuume. that should eliminate any surging.

how to set it the BOV is in this thread step by step. http://www.sr20forum.com/showthread.php?t=37019&highlight=set+greddy+bov

Hmmm, Just spent the morning with my BOV opened up.. First took out the big spring, but even @ idle the BOV couldnt stay shut..

So swapped the springs so now the bigger one is in there. The adjustment screw is wound down about 4/5 as far as it can go, and it still opens every now and then @ idle, very slightly though.. Is this ok?

Also, since the screw is so far down (4/5 +/-), Does this mean by BOV can only open up 1/5 of its full travelling distance? If so, would I be right in thinking that this is bad, because the extra air wont be getting expelled quick enough??

Thanks!
