I went to take my valve cover in to be powder coated today and the guy said that I had to remove a little plastic piece underneath the cover that is held on by some glue or rubber stuff (that came from a tube)... Would it damage this part if I scape off this "glue" stuff to get the valve cover powder coated??

Thanks

I soked mine in Carb cleaner to clean off the paint and gunk. It also ate the goo you speak of. Hope that helps.

The shop that powder coated mine requested that I remove the black goo holding the plastic piece. I did so but left the plastic piece itself on. The plastic took the heat of their baking ovens. When you remove the goo you will see that the plastic part has a 90 degree bend in it and it fits into a little metal "pocket" (for lack of a better word. The plastic part has a small nipple (bump) that sticks up through the metal pocket. That to help hold it in place. The rubber goo is just an extra measure Nissan did to make sure that plastic part stayed put. Heaven forbid if it were to come loose while the VC was installed. My plastic part was a tight fit even without the goo so I never did put it back on.

Also you might want to give SER-prise in WV (Greg Perry) a shout. He just got his own Powder coating rig and he is doing them now for members at a very good price.

Good Luck,
