At the convention, the subject of the forums was brought up. Some of the people that were there thought this place was a big joke. They didn't know that I was involved here. This got me thinking about this place. I've been here since day 1 ( other screen name), and I want to see this place grow. There are a lot of people on here who know what they are talking about, but there is also twice as many who don't know jack crap. The people talking about the forum, were not just some person with an SR20 car, they were well know, and respected SR20 people. I'm trying to keep this place from turning into Club Si. Back in the day, it was a good source for CSi information, but now its Riceboy City, USA. One thing that need to change is the GhEtTo TaLk. It makes it almost impossible to read a post. I also see people posting just to get their post count up. I will admit that SmoothDaddy has cut back on posting these days.

I think the se-r list is a huge joke. Look at the hot topic on there this week.. back and forth bickering. Then people getting snide remarks when they ask questions(albeit questions that can be easily answered on se-r.net and/or archives). IMHO, if you want straight SE-R talk and nothing else, stay on the se-r list. If you want SE-R talk and a more friendly atmosphere, this is the place for you. I guarantee most of the people who spoke poorly of this place at the convention do not even post here or view the posts for that matter.

What is going on reflects the general state of SERCA these days. Things are very disorganized. I don't see any forward progress being made with regards to online activities or even any steps forward in consolidation or bridging some of these communities.

Perhaps now is a good time to reevaluate what the forums should be, and perhaps with a little financial help from the community we can make it what it should be.

I don't see anything wrong with this forum. Go over to honda-acura.net and read some of the posts in the kill stories and off topic (basement) forums. I really don't see what the problem is. If these so-called big SR20 people don't like the forum, then they don't have to visit this URL. I'm sure 99.9% of the 1,000+ members on this board could care less what they think. I know I don't care. When they start paying for this forum, then they can have a say on how it should operate and be critical of it. They're not even members here for christ's sake. Lighten up everyone; Life's way too short.

Edit: Matt, if you were to set up a paypal account for donations, I'm sure a lot of people would donate money. I personally would donate money to help the forum out. If you set up the account and put a link to it at the top of each forum page you'd be suprised how much money you would bring in. I just read your post in the sticky that Ben just put up. Don't worry about what people say; you're doing the best you can with hosting the forums. Believe me, I know what goes into hosting sites. Best of luck.

Hey sup all. Ive loved this forum ever since I found it a while back and still do. I see there to be nothing wrong with the forum. I mean no MATTER what fourm you goto. If its the Supra forums, RX-7 forums, Subaru forum, F-Body forums, honda forums, and 300ZX forums... There is always your bickering of pointless and endless fighting and there is always the idiot asking or posting random things. I personally havent much of that lately and someone always wants to post up 5000posts of random things. Its part of any forum and I say dont worry about the bickering and foum idiots. And no offence to anyone that got offened, but its all good from what I see. And if u dont like the forum, atleast stay on the SE-R mailing list or something. And we really only see the bickering and what not in: off-topic, general, and some of the regions really. If you goto into the: turbo threads, specific car threads, and even technical. There isnt much of that... oh well

I must first say thanks to Ben our "evil overlord" for the creativity and flexibility he has exibited through the evolution of this Forum.

I'm not into the GhEtTo TaLk or RiceBoy scence myself, but from what I've experienced, this Forum has a niche for almost everyone. For the most part, members play by the rules. Want to brag about beating some guy from one stop light to the next or who said SR20 this or that on "The Fast and the Furious"? You can boast all you want in the Off Topic area. Myself? I typically stick to the General, For Sale/Wanted To Buy, SR20DE Technical Corner, and Classic SE-R areas. Every once and while I too like to show off. There's a place for that too in the Member's Rides area.
Break a rule and there are plenty who will make sure you know it, so it doesn't happen again.

As far as being thought of as a big joke, I'm too busy sharing information and participating in awesome group buys with other SR20 owners to care.

The problem with the main SE-R list is that it's way out of date.

We're talking about a system where each e-mail sent by someone is automatically forwarded to the mailboxes of 800+ people. A substantial portion of the guys on the main SE-R list are older and are simply comfortable with that format rather than message forums. IMO this format is much better - you see the topic before clicking it, and replies are instantaneous whereas the digest members of the SE-R mailing list will not receive the messages for several hours if not a day.

I also agree the SE-R list has been plagued by too much bickering as of late, and I also agree with Eric coming down on people messing around on here. No names, but I'm in the mood for some FIG newtons now. :) ;) :P

Both the forum and mailing list have their good points and bad points. This place is better now that the "Kill Forum" is dead. For the most part, we are troll free. I would like to see some of the people who complained, post here. I promise you, it would be worth it. One problem here is that we get off topic in some threads, or people posting mis information. If we could all just think before we post, then the world mayu be a better place. I don't mean to be a jerk, and if you met me in person you would know what kind of a person I am, but I'm going to continue coming down on people good posting etiquette. ALL CAPS, or gHeTo SpEaK are examples.

Ignorance is bliss...
If people post about stupid crap or post misinformation, let them continue to think they know everything and just go on about your day. Everybody's had they're days (or posts) and went off on somebody, but You talking crap to everybody that ever posts anything other than what you think is valuable is bull... This is a forum and a community of many people, Not just you... So stop trying to be the Forum Police and let it go!! IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH A POST WHERE SOMEONE IS TYPING IN ALL CAPS, oR Gh3TtO, THEN MY FRIEND, YOU HAVE DEEPER PERSONAL ISSUES!

How do you get on the mailing list?

kpw97
03-26-2002, 08:50 AM
Just go to se-r.net and click on the mailing list link. That gives you all the directions you need to subscribe. Personally, I've been a member of both. I hated having 50+ new emails a day *** of that list. It took forever to sort through it.

This format is FAR superior. I would really like to know who thinks this list is a joke. I've noticed that a lot of the se-r gurus have left in the last few months after being questioned on their knowledge. What they need to understand is that everyone is not going to bow down before them. If you tell me something back it up with hard evidence. Don't just give me a load of BS *** you work for the company or it's all you know......

This format enables a better exchange of ideas. It is better for the growth of the community. Perhaps "ghetto talk" and the what not should be outlawed? It could be explained during the registration process. Then, if you ever have to warn someone for poor behavior or whatever, they can simply be removed. Works for me.

There is way to much misinformation being spread. If I don't know first hand or am not positive I don't post. Its not about joining the conversation its about being helpful to those in need.

I'm trying to make it easier to read the posts. I'm not the only one who has brought this up. I'm not talking crap to everyone. With the sinnistersentra thread, he asked for our opinions, and I gave him mine. You are just upset that it wasn't the same as yours. Have I ever said anything negative to you, or anything about your car? No. With the misinformation, the only way people are going to learn anything is if someone tells them the correct way. I'm not saying I know everything, I don't, but if I have some information on a subject, I make sure to share it with others.

All of you have valuble points on this, For one Why would anyone care what some guy said just cause he is one of the more well known people in the community, We are not sheep gents so don't let it bother you. Two I agree with Storm on the out of date coment, Honeslty I am a member of both, have been since I owned my SE-R 1998 and Honestly I just cant stand reading the Main list anymore, it blah takes too long to get a reply, hell I don't even send anything over it anymore, I just browse my email for stuff that looks interesting. This forum is great because you can exchange Ideas, debate if necessary, and check out different topics and sr20 formats IE (NA, Turbo). I find a lot more technical information here then I ever have on the main list IMHO especially after the cristening of the Technical forum (Awsome Idea BTW). If people want to cry about this forum then they don't have to come here nore do they have to post here, but just cause they don't doesn't mean you have to follow them, I'm not saying anyone would, I'm simply stating what some may be thinking.

jee, i don't know what to say. i didn't think i was a ricer.

One thing that need to change is the GhEtTo TaLk. It makes it almost impossible to read a post. I also see people posting just to get their post count up. I will admit that SmoothDaddy has cut back on posting these days.

i think you do have a problem with everyone at the forum. you think you can single handedly take out "ghetto talk?" come on, give me a break here. i thought more of you. you sound like a tyrant from what you've said. people talk the way they want to. if you think you can change their freedom of speech and the way they put it, then you are completely wrong and very dilusional. i hate to bust a nut over something like this, but when admins and moderators start talking and thinking like this the forum goes downhill from there. keep in mind we, the members, are the reason this forum has grown. if you want to change us, or at least try to, expect this forum to become a very ghostly place.

as far as the smoothdaddy comment goes, you seem to be the only one in the moderator forum that has had a problem with him. sure, he may post a lot, but all of his posts are supportive and friendly. not once have i seem him blow up and flame a person. i could be wrong, but i'd love to see proof of it. smoothdaddy is a great guy, and a great person for this forum to have. kick him out, and i think a lot of followers will go too. not saying that you are going too or anything, though.

ohh, btw, there are other admins/moderators here, too. all i see in your post is what you think, what you want changed, etc. there is no "i" in team, remember?

btw, i wouldn't make a huge deal of my posting, it's just my opinion on the matter at hand.

Hi Guys!

I'm not siding with anyone. I just want to share my experience here at the forum. I have met a lot of good people here and very knowledgeble people.

I do asked for advice but I also do my own research. I'm glad that someone is willing to share their experiences and knowledge but as I know that sometimes it can be wrong. This is why I do my own researching as well. It just cuts the time shorter or researching and actually it's good to have different views on a subject.

As far as the Ghetto talk! It is somewhat hard to understand and read with the "garble" typing. Maybe I'm getting old and not with the hip crowd anymore! :)

I don't have any experience on any other auto forum but I am a member of other forum. For instance.. Reef keeping! There's tons of different view on how one is to set up a tank, maintenance, and so on. I just listen to everyone's advice then I read a lot of books, talk with others that I know and so on.

Have a great day everyone!

Steve :)

Umm, guys... I think eric was saying that *ClubSi* is now Riceboy City, USA. Which it most certainly is. This place is still pretty good, but if it wasn't ruled with the iron fist that it is (compared to the anarchy of CSi) it would be a lot farther along down that same road.

I think sr20deboston is an admin. I agree with Eric says although I'm not really a moderator anymore. I asked to be taken off moderator status because I wanted to be able to freely state an opinion without being accused of being a "moderator on a power trip."
