: Looking for Suspension
onefastnismo 03-26-2002, 09:01 PM Hi, I'm in the process of buying Springs, Shock/struts, and the energy suspension bushing kit. I'm looking to spend $700 max for these parts. Here's what I'm looking for:
Eibach (1.6F, 1.5R) for $214.95 shipped---from Digital Racer
Energy sus. Bushing kit for $114.00 shipped---from Suspension.com
KYB gas strut for $252.32 shipped---from Nopi
What do you guys think? Would this set up be worth my pennies? Any help or common would be appreciated.
Thanks,
mike
NismoSER 03-26-2002, 09:25 PM By that price for the struts from Nopi, I assume you are just getting the GR-2's. You will never hear the end of it, so I may as well mention it first. Get the AGX's. You can get them from www.p-s-t.com for $389 shipped.
If you insist on the GR2's like I did (its a temp setup until I can afford AGX's and possibly GC's in the future), get them from Tire Rack. They have them for 50 a piece there.
Otherwise, my setup is exactly what you listed. I have the ProKits and GR2's, and I reused everything else from the stock suspension (bushings, boots, etc.). Not the best idea, I know, but ANYTHING was better than my stock suspension that bottomed out on anything. Additionally, I got my springs used from another member....and I believe there is a ProKit set on sale either on this forum or on the se-r.net classifieds.
I am rather satisfied with the ride quality in my car, my Aunt's G20t rides stiffer than my car, but it is dampened better (more strut travel). When I give AutoX'ing a try sometime this season, I'll find out how ill equipped it is and let everyone know :p
Good luck, hope this helps.
SERsentra94 03-26-2002, 10:13 PM Yes, get the AGX's. The G2's are not much of an improvement over stock. You can get the Eibach lowering springs (1.75" drop) and all four AGX's from www.coximport.com for $605.00
chriscar 03-26-2002, 10:32 PM Mike,
Definitely go for the AGX's, they're a better shock, and are adjustable. You'll be glad you spent a little extra for them. You can getr them from www.highperformanceonline.com for $369 shipped. Ask for Isidro, tell him Chris Scarpulla sent you.
Look around the forum, when it comes to shocks, AGX's are your best bet. If you have to stick tight to that budget, I'd suggest holding off on the bushings until later. Besides, if you're going to do all the suspension bushings, you'll pribably want to put in new ball joints and possibly tie rod ends while you have the whole front end apart. And unless you've got a press, you'll need to pay a shop to do the control arm bushings also. Oh, and don't forget the alignment you'll need when you're done! :)
As far as springs go, I don't want to piss off you guys with the Eibachs, but in my opinion, and many other peoples opinions they are way to soft, especially for the amount that they drop the car. I can speak from experience, I had them on my 91 SE-R with Tokico blues, and I now have them on my 92 SE-R with AGX's.
Mike if you didn't already know it, there's a group deal going on right now on new high performance springs which we're having custom made. This is a one shot deal, so check out the thread, and make your decision soon. The springs are $269.

NonSER 03-26-2002, 10:45 PM Everyone says how there aren't really stiff enough aftermarket springs for Sentra suspension. I have B14 so Hyperco deal doesn't apply to me and I don't want to deal with GC coilover (higher price, balancing weights, sqeaks and rattles, alignment everytime, etc...). Is there a way I can ask GC or maybe even HyperCo to sell me Eibach ERS type of spring for a descent price ($200+-). Are there any aftermarket springs that are anywhere near 300f/200r? Chris, I know you're organizing this Hyperco deal for B13, is there anything for B14 on the horizon?
Also when I buy front struts, I heard that B13 struts fit B14 and have more suspension travel. Is that true? Are there any modifications required?
Thanks
ERS springs only work on a coilover type setup. They will not work with shocks designed for OEM style lowering springs. The B13 strut swap is true and is a direct bolt in!

You can't use those springs without the rest of the coilover components. They have a much smaller diameter, and need to sit on the coilover perch. See here:

No, and no :(

mrtturbo 03-27-2002, 09:05 AM ONEFASTNISMO,
Hey, I am in the same boat as you (looking for a cost effective susp. upgrade for B14). Anyone seen Hurricane Power Racing coil overs for sale on EBAY? They tell me these are 450/350 spring rates. You can get them for around $130, add KYB AGX's to that and you get your $700. As for the extra suspension travel on B13 struts on a B14...is that with aftermarket struts or do I have to replace my stock B14's with the B13's??? If that's the case I see no benefit to the extra travel b/c I am not upgrading the shock just the travel??? I also feel GC is a little pricey. Thought about the eibach sportlines but keep hearing bad things about bottoming out. Could the Hurricane coil overs be the solution? The rep for the company quoted me those rates (450/350). So if you lowered 1.5'' and had the KYB's at those rates it seems you would have your stiff ride without bottoming out and you would be meeting your <$700 cost. But the coil overs could be crap?! Just a thought, anyone?

Never heard of Hurricane Power Racing, but I'd be very suspicious about coilovers for $130. You have a link to them on Ebay? I searched, but didn't turn up anything.

ClassicSE-R 03-27-2002, 11:42 AM You can buy the GC/AGX combo for just under $800. Yes, that's a little more than you wanted to spend, and it doesn't come with the new bushings, but that is the best combo of performance for the money.
mrtturbo 03-27-2002, 12:29 PM The HP coil overs on EBAY can be found, if they are still beign auctioned, by searching using sentra HP or sentra coil.
dontblameme 03-27-2002, 12:42 PM onefastnismo - why not just start of with the AGX shocks and ES bushings. Get everything ride it around for, if you want springs then get them. That way you won't have to drop all the money @ once, plus you'll get part of it at one time and the rest at a later date which means you could save up a little more money and increase you budget more.
onefastnismo 03-27-2002, 12:56 PM Well guys here it is, I'll be ordering the eibach springs with the agx from coximport.com. This is what I want, but if it doesn't satify my performance then I'll switch over to the GC's. I'me going this route cause i've heard Coilovers squeas and not only that I live in WI (snow) Wouldn't Salt eat the GCs? Well I'll let you guys know how this turns out next week when instalation and performance wise..
Thanks,
mike
2wdBlazer 03-27-2002, 12:58 PM I can make someone a killer deal on Eibach Sportlines for a B-14. Let me Know. See my ad in the for sale section.
onefastnismo 03-27-2002, 01:27 PM I forgot to ask but if I do switch over to GC where's the best place and deal I can get them from?
Thanks,
mike

Scarpa 03-27-2002, 05:59 PM If your intent is more performance and less style, then skip the eibachs altogether and run stock springs with new bushings and AGX shocks. I have run both Pro-Kits and stock springs on AGXs and the stock springs ride better and handle better, proven in autocross competition.
You are then ready to step up to Ground Controls if you want more performance or a lowered look.
whitespec 09-27-2005, 01:44 PM i need to get some stock struts for my 92 se-r because i have to take my tokicos to get new ones and cant leave the car apart for however long it takes to get the new ones from tokico. it doesn't matter what condition as long as the fit and work for a week or 2.
MIXMASTAP2 09-27-2005, 01:52 PM onefast----check the f/s section someone is selling tein basic setup for around 700. i just got these on my car sunday night and they are awesome. for the money, i think they're fantastic unless your planning on going with agx (which aren't made for lowerd cars) i think the tein is the way to go
