driving the car yesterday and im knoticeing that its reving a little high for idle. drove it for about an hour or 2 stop and go, running fine. make an other stop on my way home running fine all night. block from my house the idle starts going back up to 2 k then driving home in my drive way i try to bring the idle down just by puting it in to gear and not leting the car move and it starts to sputter. i tuned it off thinking ok maybee its just something that will go away and it dose not. i tried it again this morning and it is acting the same. wierd thing is that i knoticed the number one primary on the header was cool to the touch along with the second one. but the thrid and forth were hot. could it be that i just fouled a plug? ideas suguestions. set up is a sr20ve with setzer tuned calum ecu.

i messed with it a little bit and it seems to start alot better, i changed the plugs for some old ones i had and it almost idles but now it seems to knock. and the exhaust note is remenicent of a helicopter. or a subaru. somethings still not right in there. possibly bent valve? im not at all sure how to check this one out. need help its my daily driver.

You've definitely got a miss, and the ecu is trying to figure out what to do about it but of course it can't fix it. Not at all likely a fuel issue but it COULD be an injector not firing, and could be as simple as a loose connector. Unless you were doing dumb stuff like overrevving it (there's a reason for redlines), more likely it's injector or plug or plug wire or cracked distributor, etc. BUT you could run a compression test and if it's nada on that cylinder you would indeed have an internal problem.

What did the plugs look like? I would do a compression check, then check the injectors after that. Don't drive the car until it's fixed though.

the plugs were black as *** it has been runing rich but ive been told that before that wouldnt do any damage i dont think. im going to do a compression test tonight and im going to call up dre miko and see if i can get him to look at the car before i go any further. i hope its something out side of the engine *** i really dont want to open that motor up unless it was to change some cams or pistons. if it comes to it thats what will happen if it gets opend.

no compression in number 2 cyl one valve droped and or bent as far as my eye can see with the vc removed. reved too high.. my error. any one know where i can get a valve for the ve?? would this be a good time to upgrade valvetrain springs retainers??? should i go ahead with the new pistons too ? ?

Talk to supercowboy about the valves or mossy. As for the pistons thats up to you but I would definitly check them and definitly change the rod bearings on atleast the cylinder with the bent valve if not all of them.

why not? while you are at it just get the 20v pistons and replace the bearings and make it better! what do you think?

that sounds like what is going to happen. just because its an up grade and the engine is going to be open anyways.
