: Classic Officianodos please weigh in.
garys 03-27-2002, 12:50 PM If price was removed from the equation, which classic would be your choice:
'92 SE-R, White, AC, CC, 96K, No Rust, Tsuru Headlight upgrade and other light mods. Well maintained, Very Good Condition. (8/10)
or
'94 SE-R, Ruby, AC, CC, Sunroof, ABS, Airbag, 28K, Premium Aftermarket Sound system, otherwise stock. Well maintained, excellent condition. (9.5/10)
Dan_93SER 03-27-2002, 01:18 PM The 92 is the more desirable high-port with better cams. What are the other "light mods"? Do you mean like intake and exhaust? Or *light* mods like washer nozzle LEDs, sidemarkers, neon, etc.? You have to look at the work with a critical eye. Is it monkey?
The 94 has the less-desirable low-port and smaller cams. I personally am not too hot on the Ruby color. Not a fan of air bags. Don't like the ABS either (I don't hate ABS, but my understanding is that Nissan gave Classics a very poor version). REALLY like the mileage though! WTF?
If I were to pick one for a daily driver, I'd probably go with the 94 because of the low miles and the fact that its un-modified (clean slate!). If I were to pick a car for flogging, modding, racing, etc, I'd pick the 92.
Or you could take the 94, and remove the ABS and airbag. Tough choice. Get both.

I think you summed it up perfectly.... it's all depends on what the car is going to be used for.
;)
93BlackBird 03-27-2002, 03:05 PM I would take the mex headlights, I hear those are the hottest thing to hit the market since altezzas :) Seriously though I think the 94 is a good chioce, its got low miles and since you are going to modify it anyway who cares about the cams. Airbag can be removed when you put your momo wheel in and if the ABS ever starts given problems jsut pull the bitch out along with the ABS lights in the cluster.

kpw97 03-27-2002, 03:09 PM I would definitely go with the 94. Throw cams in there and you're good to go. It will also be cheaper in the long run to take care of since it's so new and airbags will help with insurance costs.
I've been looking for a 94 myself for when I finally move out of the city. Plus, I think Ruby is a damn good color. That was one of the reasons I liked my car so much when I got it. The paint just looks amazing.
sleeping 91ser 03-27-2002, 04:28 PM its hard to say if the price was much lower on the 91 i would go with it....... 28kmiles though is hard to pass up if they where the same price, it all depends on what your goals are i guess its a tough call
Black93 03-27-2002, 07:40 PM my vote goes to the 94 simply because of the miles.... that car MUST be a beauty. Forget the cams and stuff in the motor your gonna replace that anyways. As for the abs, mine only worked on 3 wheels. So i threw all the ABS parts away and adopted non-abs master cylinder. As for the light, unplug the abs computer in the passenger side kickpanel. Make sure its the abs computer and not your ecu ;). definately go with the 94.

'What are the other "light mods"?'
I currently own the '92. I have installed a Magnaflow muffler, replaced the factory resonator with a glasspack, installed the Miata battery, changed the tranny fluid to Redline, and upgraded the timing chain tensioner. My brother and cousin helped me install the headlight conversion, which came off very clean and works well. I had the grill and trim pieces for the conversion painted Vail White by a paint shop, and at the same time had a new '94 bumper cover painted to match as well. Oh, and a front strut tower brace. All in the last 6 months. I purchased the car last October, traveling to Tucson AZ. to get it. It was a one owner with service records, and not a hint of rust.
'REALLY like the mileage though! WTF?'
Yeah, 28k. I have committed to purchase this vehicle and will be traveling in the next couple of weeks to pick it up. It seemed like too good an opportunity to pass up. The owner lives about a mile from where he works, and often telecommutes as well. He is an older gentleman, and the car is as close to new for a classic that I may ever have a chance at. I just don't see myself keeping both cars, and was planning on selling the '92.

"I think you summed it up perfectly.... it's all depends on what the car is going to be used for."
I use my car as my daily driver, and at this time have no plans to autox.

"Plus, I think Ruby is a damn good color."
I like it too, but then I'm partial to some of the other less prevalent colors for the Se-r as well. My '92 is, as mentioned above, is Vail White, which I also like very much.

"As for the abs, mine only worked on 3 wheels. So i threw all the ABS parts away and adopted non-abs master cylinder."
Damn, sounds like the ABS is somewhat problematic on these cars. I was looking at ABS as a plus. Anyway, it's good to know that the ABS can be disabled/removed if necessary.
Thanks a lot to all of you who have shared your thoughts.

Calum 03-28-2002, 12:02 AM Sounds like you've found a helluva deal. There arn't many classics out there with that little miles in that clean condition. If you don't mind me asking, how much?
PDX S2000 03-28-2002, 02:58 AM I'd go 94, low miles and the nasty newer parts can always be changed, or replaced with a DET
