Hello everyone! Hows its driveing? Well I'm pretty new here to posting but have been viewing for awhile now.

Well I am here today about some oil questions. Tomorrow I am planing on changeing my oil in my car for the first time. And well I am kinda at a stand still with idea of what kind of oil to use. I know there are many types out there. But seeing that you guys really know you stuff. I would appreciate any ideas that you might have. Brand, Weight and anything esle you might think of. Plus any info of where I might be able to get it local. Currently my car has a little over 50K miles. And its a 99se-l, I'm sure that doesn't matter and all but don't mind adding it. One more thing, from what I know there are (2) oil filters on the SR20 engine correct? If so does anyone happen to have the part number?

Thanx Guys I appreciate the help.

Btw. Florida temp's might apply.

Mobil 1, 10w30.

Make sure you get the right oil filter. I've heard horror stories of people getting the wrong filter and then bad (or at least messy) things happen. Easily avoidable by checking old part vs. new...

OIL:

from the owners manual...

SAE 5W30 viscosity is preferred for all temperature ranges. SAE 10W30 viscosity oil may be used if the ambient temperature is above 0 degrees F (-18 degrees C)

But several guys use 10W30 synth or synth blends as well.

91-94 is B13, but thats the right number.

1995-2001 (B15) >>>>>> 15208-65F00

1995-1999 is a B14, thats the right number.

...and B15 is 2000 up. I show the same number for them too. Check out courtesy nissan's page (http://www.courtesyparts.com/B14_tuneup.html) for part numbers for tune up parts. They've got most of the filters and fun stuff listed. Check the box and the filter when you buy the 'em, my local dealer has given me the wrong one before.

The B14 filter has a different thread pattern that the filter for the B13, so do not switch them! I recommend the Nissan or Mobil one filters. Also, you can you Purolator PureOne if you want. You can find the part# for the B14 in the se-r.net mailing list archives.

Mobil 1 is a race proven synthetic motor oil Corvette Z06 oil caps read use Mobil 1 only. Porsche engines use it too. I think Mercedes likes the Castrol GTX

I was wondering what that copper ring was for that they tape to the top of those suckers, so you put them in before you install em? what do they do?

That copper ring is a crush washer. You'll notice on your drain plug that you already have one (crushed). You can remove that old crush washer and put the new one on if you'd like. Honestly it doesn't make a difference as long as your current one isn't broken or distorted (oblong). Nissan crush washers are a PITA. Once they've been on for a long time they can be very hard to get off. Thats pretty much the only reason I change my regularly. If you've never changed yours out and want to put a new one on, I recommend you get a razor blade and slide it in underneath the washer and then pry it back and forth to lift the washer up a little. Once you get the washer up a little, slide a neadle nose plyer in there and just rotate the crush washer off the plug. Replace with a new washer and your set.

Note: The plug will be painted black and the metal underneath the black paint is silver in color. So if you still see ANY bronze on the plug then you haven't gotten all of the old crush washer off. This is important as you don't want to put a new crush washer on part of a broken one.

Well I did up changeing the oil yesterday afternoon. I ended up going with Castrol Syntec Blend. Just for the fact that Pep Boyz didn't have any more Moble 1 left. And a Perolator filter. So far I can say I have seen a little bit of difference already. Now whats the real difference between a all synthetic and a blend? I mean I know the difference, but whats really worth the best?!?! Also I noticed that the new filter is a little longer. Is that a good thing or a bad. Bare with me here I'm not an oil/oil filter pro. =)

What I do know is that those assholes at Jiffy lube put some damn lock tight crap on the oil pan bolt. And seeing that my wrech sliped after the screw got loose I nailed the bone on my thumb on part of the undercarage. And that freaking hurt. Jesus! LOL. But hey, I'm happy. My first oil change went well. BTW. Thanx for all the info guys. It was greatly appreciated!
