Anyone know of Anything that I can do to my 96 200sx SE-R to get some good sound out of it, such as taking out the resanator or something, i found something on a site where oyu remove part of the airbox, if anyone has tried that i would like some feedback on how that went, or other suggestions would be great.

yep i jut did it not too long after i bought my car (its about a month old for me that is)

1. take off the fenderwell splash guard
2. remove box (2 screws)
3. put splash guard back on
4. have fun with newfound noise :)

if you loosen the bolts between the exhaust manifold and the downpipe, i'm sure that'll create a sound scary enough to make anyone think twice about driving near you, let alone race ya.

seriously, are you tryin' to gain performance on a small budget? if so, there's plenty that can be done. god knows i've had to inch along in my mods due to the banks' constant errors: not enough zeros after the $1. :D

Umm I'm confused. Are you advocating driving without an Air filter?

Ahhh, thanks for clearing that up. I re-read his message and now I see what he was talking about.

true ***!!

have you researched www.se-r.net completely for the free airbox mod, the free advanced timing mod (well, the timing light will cost ya, but you could just buy it from wal-mart then return it), the practically free CAI mod, hell even the SmoothDaddyFig CAI is super cheap, yet effective.
unfortunately there's not much you can expect to get outta your car for free or very little money spent. if you're on a SUPER tight budget, then just budget a way to save $$ and costantly check the For Sale forum and the Classified ads on SE-R.net.

Your best bet for a cheap performanc/sound increase is just buy the adapter plate for your MAF, and put an airfilter on it. It'll be basically the same thing as a JWT Pop filter. The sound that you get just from an intake is rather surprising.

so cheap? I am used to buying stuff for my Z, and they are always more expensive. I have been looking at going Stage III with my 200SX SE-R, but the intakes I have found are around $100-120. Where can I find these cheaper ones?

Be careful with some of the eBay auctions for the Air Filter with a mass airflow adapter. I purchased one a couple months ago and the plate wouldn't fit :(. When I finally got it to(after some modifications), the idle was terrible and would stall in a couple of seconds.

I finally gave it up and am working on acquiring a used Place Racing CAI. There are only so many things you can be cheap on... just be careful.:D

"if you loosen the bolts between the exhaust manifold and the downpipe, i'm sure that'll create a sound scary enough to make anyone think twice about driving near you, let alone race ya."

This happened to my car about 3 weeks ago, my motor mounts are shot so it flexed so much that the pipe looked like someone took a knife to it and sliced it. I was running an open header for a while and it is the funniest thing when you roll up on a GSR and scare the living shit out of the driver and passenger. Make sure nobody has there window rolled down! You gain a lot of low end but lose a lot of top end. (Do not try this mod it pisses of the neighbors)
