: how many times have ur clutch cable snapped?
bobbyisking 04-30-2006, 04:49 PM i posted a thread on my cable snapping a month or so back. changed my clutch from a 6 puck to an exedy stage 1, pedal is softer but still harder than stock i believe. anyways, i put on a brass reducer to give more adjustment. my cable snapped yesterday, basically i'm going through cables like 1 a month. i lubed the cable with chain and cable lube. im pretty sure it snapped because i was using it with the 6 puck for like 2 weeks and i did use a brass reducer that made the clutch harder. anyways, just wanted to know how many times ur cable snapped, and if i'm doing anything wrong that may cause my cable to snap so much? also, anyone know if the Nissan clutch cable is really better and stronger than store brand ones and if anyone makes an aftermarket cable? thanks.
Yellow4g63 04-30-2006, 05:10 PM Are you sure you need the brass reducer for a new cable? Maybe the arm is bent or something.
Setzer 04-30-2006, 08:37 PM Zero. And thats with a unsprung 4 puck and extreme style pp. Maybe I just have good luck.
Teal97 04-30-2006, 11:15 PM never. w/100k on an act hd pp and oem se-r cable. no gritch either): maybe i'm lucky (knocks on wood)
once, and it was an aftermarkit one. put my orginal stock one back in all lubed up with some industrial chain lube and works good.
Sanyo 05-01-2006, 12:56 AM Once at like 173k miles. Dunno if it was stock, replaced it with one from Advance Auto, had to adjust it for like a week, then didn't have a problem after that.
NaLLa8705 05-01-2006, 02:00 AM zErO.... just installed puck sprung... and is as smoooooth as ever
If you guys are breaking cables, it is because you are not using OEM Nissan brand cables, and/or they are not greased properly, or adjusted properly.
bobbyisking 05-01-2006, 03:30 AM o yeah, forgot to mention that this was the third cable i snapped. has anyone compared the oem Nissan cable to one from a local automotive store such as autozone or kragen. is there any sites that sells an OEM clutch cable for cheap? the local Lithia Nissan quoted me close to 60 bucks and they have to order it. i'm thinking about going to home depot and buy a thicker cable and customize my own with one of the cables i have snapped. I dunno, its just that i have a feeling that the cable might snap again in another month or so. hopefully not, thanks for all responses.
SERprise In WV 05-01-2006, 09:55 AM Zero. Still has the original 1993 cable in it.
Knock on Will's head, which might be wood-like.
Dan_93SER 05-01-2006, 10:01 AM Zero.
tystyx49 05-01-2006, 10:06 AM none, i'm running a stage 2 competition clutch.
use oem nissan and nothing else for a cable. they're not much more expensive than parts store ones anyway.
BRE92SER 05-01-2006, 12:07 PM zero, but I replaced it anyway when I rebuilt my motor last year. OEM.
spdracerUT 05-01-2006, 01:27 PM zip, nada. i replaced the original 9 yr old one though when I did my 2nd clutch job.

Serban 05-01-2006, 01:33 PM Enough times to where I keep a spare one in the car with me. But in the last 2 years, I went through 5. ACT xtreme PP. 2 of them were discount auto ones, since it was the only place open during the time it happened. others were OEM nissan ones.
MIXMASTAP2 05-01-2006, 02:38 PM 3 pboys snapped...one oem stretched...third clutch....killmyself

I have compared several different ones side by side. They differ quite a bit in what the different parts are made from and how they age. The casing on the generic ones gets old and binds faster than the OEM ones. I snapped one cable, and ripped another one entirely through the firewall. I have had no trouble since swapping to a USED, 60k mile cable from my parts car, that one is still smooth as butter.
Serban, remember the trouble I had with other cables (remember that time at moroso with the speaker wire tied to the clutch pedel???)

I think you just manhandle it too much;)
Serban 05-01-2006, 02:44 PM Yeah, I'll never forget when you open your door, and out popped some speaker wires, thought you were doing a stereo install
