Chuck Cragnolin had a Borla on his 91 SE-R....it sounded pretty good, pretty deep and rumbly, not too ricey.

well I ask because I have a customer that is failing a noise test in his state (unsure on where he is from) and need to know if it is loud or not. I would hate to sell it to him and it not make any diffrence over his Courtesy he has on there now.

If you are talkin about that one on se-r.net, I have that on my car with the stock piping, resonator, etc. Its not intrusively loud at all, like stormy said. Its deep, smooth, very unricey, (and take this one with a grain of salt) if you close your eyes it could pass as an early 90's stock Bimmer 3 series exhaust note. :)

In fact, inside my car it sounds stock. I'm not sure, this muffler was on there when I got the car but you can only tell the muffler is there when the motor is under load or WOT.

Brian,
Talk to Shell, he had this same exhaust on his car for many years before he put the Courtesy exhaust on his SE-R.

I had a Borla exhaust on my '93 from a NisMo catalog. I really liked it. It was pretty stealthy looking and sounded great, especially at WOT. Plus, it is guaranteed for life and will never rust! I'm wishing I still had that exhaust as my custom one is LOUD.

in regards to failing inspections, i had the same problem. it's not really a factor of how loud your exhaust is as much as it is a factor of how big of a prick the inspection agent wants to be. they do not have a meter there that tests how many decibels your exhaust is cranking out, at least not at the nj state inspection centers. however, if you have a mango-shooter size exhaust, they will probably listen more carefully to your exhaust note. i swapped out my pacesetter muffler for a dynomax one and slapped on a 2.5" borla tip. it has a very unassuming look but is still pretty damn loud when you rev it. i also replaced the resonator with a thrush glasspack, but am not really sure how much that helped out. anyways, i'm not sure if this helps you or your customer out at all, but i would suggest not going back for a re-inspection with an oversized exhaust tip - they will probably give you a hard time, even if it is quieter.
