if you have a factory service manual follow the instructions on testing codes.. if you dont hanve a factory service manual go to your local autoparts store and get a haines manual.. follow those instructions on checking the code.. it is really simple to do.. just gain access to your ecu (its under the dash .on the floor behind the radio, it has a plastic cover on it) look on the sides of the ecu.. you will find what looks like a screw/knob with a spot to put a flat head screwdriver in it.. i cant remember the exact procedure but it tells you in the hains manual..you turn the screw one way and the check engine light will blink a certain number of times..count the number of blinks and look in the haines manual as to what the code is.. then you can fix whats throwing the code and reset the ecu with that screw as well.. get a haines manual or factory service manual for the more detailed instructions.. it should only take you about 15min to check the code and find out what it is.. if you take it somewhere thay can find out the code in a matter of minutes but you will be looking at atleast a $60 bill (usually they charge one hour labor) for a diagnostic fee.. your best bet is to spend $15 on a haines manual..hope this helps

it's simple to get the codes but it's a pain in the arse to get to the ecu... I think you can also find the procedure to get to the ecu and codes at www.se-r.net or www.sentra.net
