: Missing timing notches / pointer

Welp, I decided to go ahead and try to advance my timing this morning and....

I can't seem to find any kind of timing reference points on my crank pulley. Sighting down the top I dont see anything, no notches, no white area, no "pointer" thingie, nuthin'. Which leads me to believe I am either doing something wrong (most likely). There is the main crank pulley on the outside, and there is another smaller one running directly to the inside of it. I should be looking on the outer one right (the large diameter one with the big bolt right in the middle right above and outside the oil pan). Or maybe I have some other kind of pulley (I'm not the original owner). "RD3061A" was stamped into the pulley, and it's a 91.

I looked at Naji's website and it seems like the pointer should be pretty obvious from his picture, but I've spent a couple of hours looking for any kind of marks.... Damn frustrating  .

Any help would be appreciated.

When you were looking for the marks, was the light hooked up?
Sometimes its easier to find them this way. Just hook everything up right, aim the light at the pulley, turn it on and POW!!! Notches for days!!! The pointer can be kinda tricky. I'll look for better pics for ya. Its way above the notches. Its a metal stick.

according to the sticker on my door it was a May 91 production run car if that makes a difference.

Yeah, I tried looking w/ the timing light, and various other flash lights, sunlight, maybe I should try tonight, they indiglo notches???;)

LOL, you wish!!
That would be too easy. If all else fails try going underneath your car and turning the crank pulley with a nice big wrench. LOOK CLOSELY. Maybe you can mark them with some chalk.
