: Exhaust Opinions: Courtesy vs. HKS vs. Greddy vs. PS
Kelway 03-30-2002, 11:22 PM I am looking at all four of these setups. Don't like the Stillen/remus (tailpipe too small) or the Borla/Nissan (tailpipe too long). The Courtesy looks the sweetest, but is the most expensive ($580) and I'm curious about any backpressure created by the taper down to 2.25 at the muffler inlet. The HKS and Greddy both look pretty good and are priced about the same (~$450), but I haven't heard anything about either. The PS is cheap ($250)but isn't quite as flashy as the others. Just looking for some input. Thanks guys.
silversx 03-31-2002, 02:27 AM I'm going with the courtesy b-pipe ($230) and the nismoparts.com borla axle-back section ($264). I'm hoping for a not riced out sound. I think $264 is a good deal on that peice, I believe courtesy sells it for over $100 more.
RUTH'LESS 200sx 03-31-2002, 02:49 AM I believe the HKS and Greddy catbacks only are for the classic. The bpipe is the same but the axle back is a little bit different you would have to get a shop to cut the the rear section because it'll be too long. As far as the ourtesy exhaust get the b-pipe and get a muffler shop to weld a mandrel bent rear section for your car with choice of muffer. I currently run a custom 2.5inch exhaust from a classic and a re-welded rear section from a classic as well. No reasonator and cat either car is just to loud but everyone loves it except for me i want to tone it down.
Da91NX 03-31-2002, 12:43 PM the best bet is just buy a muffler and go some where. I got my 5Zigen muffler for $212 shipped and had mandrel bent ss piping done for $70. I didn't get a resonator or anything in mine so i sound like a dirt bike, but everyone i know loves it and it was cheap.
NXTremeSE-R 03-31-2002, 01:36 PM courtesy midpipe is $189.95 plus shipping (for me, it was 33.50 - i live in VA). i like it, it was better then i thought it was going to be. nice big resonator. it does hit my heatsheilding though, but i dont have the exhoust hangers on the front of the cat hooked up, so that might have somthing to do with it.
Kelway 03-31-2002, 08:42 PM The thing I like the best about the Courtesy is the muffler. Does the resonator cut the HP any? I don't want it loud, but I want to hear it. What do you think about the Pacesetter Cat-back's?
silversx 04-01-2002, 03:03 AM I would probably have a local shop mandrel bend and install an axle-back section after the b-pipe with a dynomax ultraflow muffler, but nobody in roanoke can do mandrel bends, so I'm just going to have to give the nismo/borla axle-back section a try.
Subculture 04-01-2002, 01:36 PM You can buy Mandrel Bends from Summit Racing (www.SummitRacing.com).
Then you can have your muffler shop weld them in.
Pretty White 04-02-2002, 09:54 AM No exhaust, I mean No exhaust with the exception if a modified Borla (because of it's body size) will fit an NX2000 without hacking up your chassis or bumper. Don't waste your time. I been there done that. The Greddy will not fit despite what people tell you.
The B-Pipes for some reason are shorter on the NX2000. Yes, they are. The stock B pipe may be the same but the aftermarket ones I had on mine I had to cut by almost an inch. (Stromung and Greddy)
Go to a muffler shop and have them build you an exhaust. It is cheaper in the long run.
NX-DET 04-02-2002, 01:31 PM i bought the mandrel bends from summit and welded them all together.
everything obviously fit perfect and looks kick ass.Would recommend this way if you have access to welder or someone with a welder.

Sound's good, but how do you know which bends to get. Maybe you could give me a list...;) .
Fonque 04-22-2002, 05:32 PM what angles of mandrel piping and length should i order for the nx 2000? im gonna have a dynomax ultra flow attached to the courtesy b-pipe
speedypenguin 04-23-2002, 11:07 AM Hey everyone, great forum!
For what it's worth, I had a Ravin performance muffler and custom pipe installed for around $200. Improved HP and mileage with a low menacing growl. Very happy with it.

You know I had a Greddy exhaust and I loved the deep sound it had. I decided to have exhaust made for my car with possibly less bends and no cat and it was a flatlike muffler that was well hidden. The guy suggested the NEW Raven muffler. I said what the hell, let's do it. WHen he fired it up, it sounded like the worst Honda exhaust you ever heard. It sounded like a motocross bike. He ended up putting a resonator pipe where the cat was to bring the "bee in a pop can" sound down a little. I did notice a little better power, but if I could do it all over again, I would get my Greddy back. You may have gotten a different Raven muffler than I did. But I was pretty unhappy about it.
speedypenguin 04-24-2002, 10:46 AM I had a Ravin Z-55 class muffler installed. It definitely does not have the Honda "lawnmower on crack" sound. I know what you mean though, there's a ton of Civics around here with that noise. They always want to drag too. Sad really, street racing is just plain dumb. Huge wings are prevalent too, I think the kids hang their laundry from them.
I autox at Miller Park, if you're ever in the area on event day, swing by or join in even. More Nissan's the better!

Actually the wings come in handy as push rails when the blow their motors.:p

This would be useful information if someone could list all the
part numbers required. Anyone still have the packing slip on what was ordered?
FastNX 05-04-2002, 05:41 PM an opinion about the GReddy: It rocks! I was pissed at the amount of hacking it took to fit, but I love that nice, deep tone. If you cruise around the spped limit, you can't hear it at all. at 80mph, you can. When you gas it you really hear it. It makes an amazing sound around 5-6K rpm under full throttle :D
cossieturbo 05-05-2002, 02:04 AM Hacking? What sort of hacking????? Just the rear pipe right??? "This man needs annnnswers"!!!!! Going crazy!!!! ;)
Cossie
coach 10-17-2002, 12:30 PM how much of this rear section has to be cut away?
